Hide a sound bar without sacrificing sound quality
- Four-door console with three inner compartments.
- Center compartment can accommodate a large center channel speaker or soundbar.
- Side compartments include an adjustable center shelf.
The BDI Corridor 8179 is an elegant TV console designed with style and functionality in mind for the modern consumer and home theater enthusiast. It’s a media cabinet with a few hidden (and helpful) features that are sure to please both audiophiles and interior designers alike. The center doors swing out to reveal a double-wide section for a sound bar or center speaker. Plus the louvered doors allow for sound and infrared remote control signals to freely pass through while ventilating any equipment inside. This gives consumers the benefit of a full home theater setup while keeping components hidden.
The center shelf is large enough to conceal many popular sound bars including the Sonos PlayBar or Yamaha YAS-207. Any center speaker or sound bar under 38.1-inches wide will fit in the middle area. One could also conceal small bookshelf speakers, such as the Audioengine A5+ in the side compartments. Or stash smart speakers, such as Apple HomePod, Amazon Echo, or Google Home in there too.
Designer Matthew Weatherly snuck in a few more innovative features including a cable management system, a removable back panel that allows for easy access to component connections, adjustable ventilated shelves, a virtually shatter-proof satin-etched tempered glass top and hidden mobile wheels. These subtle details bring functionality into a uniquely designed piece of furniture that’s built to last.
For the ultra-modern home, BDI has an option to swap the taller legs for shorter legs. The BDI 8171 Low Leg Kit ($129) does the trick and reduces overall height by 3.75 in (9.5 cm). In either case, the BDI Corridor 8179 can also function as decorative console for any room or hallway. Alternatively, BDI offers other size variations that keep the same look. The Corridor 8173 keeps the same width but is 8-inches shorter, and the Corridor 8177 is 15-inches less wide with three doors instead of four.
