To better compete on price with the Amazon Kindle Fire at $199, Barnes & Noble announced a new 8GB version of its NOOK 7-inch Tablet for the same price, while continuing to offer the larger capacity 16GB NOOK for $249. B&N also reduced the price of the NOOK Color to $169.
The new 8GB NOOK comes with 512MB of RAM, microSD memory expansion, a highly tuned 1GHz dual-core processor, and built-in email to stay easily connected with friends and family. It also boasts 11.5 hours of battery life for reading or 9 hours while watching videos on its 16 million color high-resolution display.
NOOK is includes access to popular services from Netflix, Hulu Plus, Flixster, Pandora, Rhapsody, Grooveshark, MOG and many more. Plus it works with thousands of NOOK Apps with access to 2.5 million digital books, periodicals, children’s books and more. Customers can, as always, access their personal NOOK Library through the free, reliable and secure NOOK Cloud service, which also powers the seamless integration and synchronization between devices, as well as NOOK’s best-in-class shopping experience and social features.

The B&N NOOK Tablet 8GB is available now for $199 online, and will be in stores within a few weeks.
