In March 2022, Bang & Olufsen offered up the limited edition 72-22 music system as part of its 50th Anniversary celebration. The system did so well that Bang & Olufsen have announced the Beosystem 72-23 Nordic Dawn which offers up a combination of vintage Danish design and 2023 wireless streaming.
Tip: Only 100 units are being offered, each engraved with a unique identification number.
Just as with the previous system, the Beosystem 72-23 Nordic Dawn connects the years 1972 and 2023 by merging immersive music experiences from both vinyl and digital streaming.
From Mads Kogsgaard Hansen, Head of Product Circularity at Bang & Olufsen: “The Beosystem 72-23 is a testament to Bang & Olufsen’s dedication to extending the longevity of products in the consumer electronics industry…As part of the Recreated Classics Initiative, the Beosystem 72-23 Nordic Dawn Limited Edition symbolizes a new beginning for a future where audio products are designed to last, where luxury is expert craftsmanship that expands beyond the first lifecycle, and where connectivity can be timeless“.
Product Design
The design for the 72-23 was inspired by the warm light of a Scandinavian sunrise. The Honey, Ginger, and Amber Tone aluminum finishes merge with the perfectly crafted Birch Wood cabinet. The cabinet provides room to store a vinyl record collection, as well as housing the needed components for smart Bang & Olufsen ecosystem integration.
Beogram 4000c Turntable
The heart of the system is the iconic Beogram 4000c turntable. It was first recreated for a limited run in 2020, then again in 2022 for use in use in the previous 72-22 system. Now the legendary turntable has been recreated again by hand and customized in the Nordic Dawn color scheme to create an aesthetic reminiscent of soft mornings in the Scandinavian meadows.
Speakers
The Beogram 4000c turntable is complemented by the Beolab 28 stereo speakers for a refined and immersive stereo sound experience. The Beolab 28s have been customized for this system with warm finishes, including Ginger Tone aluminum, Birch Wood fronts, and Sandthorne Define fabric by leading Danish textile experts Kvadrat.
Beosound Core
This serves as the central hub for the system that includes all the wired and streaming connectivity that may be needed.
- 1 x USB-C (for power via external power supply)
- 1 x Power Link socket (RJ45) with two channels
- 1 x Line-in (analogue & digital combo) with sensing
- 1 x Ethernet 10/100 Mbit/s
- 1 x Wi-Fi
- 1 x Toslink digital sound out
- 1 x USB (for Connection to the BeoSound Shape – if you are using that speaker system)
Streaming Support
- Bluetooth ver 4.1
- Chromecast built-in
- Apple AirPlay
- DLNA – DMR
- Spotify Connect
- Deezer
- Tunein Internet Radio
Beolab Transmitter
The Beolab Transmitter 1 ($600) enables the 72-73 to connect wirelessly using WiSA technology to any wireless Beolab speaker (such as the Beolab 28) as well as to classic active wired speakers fitted with a Beolab Receiver. This eliminates the usual speaker wire clutter allowing for a clean-looking setup as well as flexible speaker placement.
Beoremote Halo
The Beoremote Halo ($900) provides comprehensive system control. Incorporating a rechargeable battery, you use it around the house and charge it when needed via USB-C or wirelessly with the Beoplay Charging Pad ($125). With no further installation required, the Halo directly connects to compatible Bang & Olufsen wireless speakers or the Beosound Core. You can then play your favorite music from compatible sources with one touch. The Halo has been customized in an Amber Tone aluminum finish for the 72-23 system.
Over 50 Years of Tradition
The Beosystem 72-23 honors more than 50 years of music listening experiences, evolving design principles, unique brand legacy, and uncompromised craftsmanship.
The 100 units of the Beogram 4000c that comprise the Beosystem 72-23 were brought back to Bang & Olufsen’s factory in Struer, Denmark, where they first originated in the early 1970s. In this go-around they were restored and recreated for the first time in the new Nordic Dawn colorway.
The music system is a part of the Recreated Classics Program and a prime example of Bang & Olufsen’s commitment to longevity.
The Beosystem 72-23 Nordic Dawn Limited Edition is available for $65,000 (USD) in select Bang & Olufsen stores across the U.S. and in Europe and Hong Kong for 60,000 (EUR), 55,000 (GBP), 550,000 (HKD), 450,000 (DKK).

Well stick a candle up my nose and call me Jack O. Lantern…Nope. Hell hath no A.C. Yet. WTF indeed is going on here?!
This is without a doubt the nicest (okay, disregard my comment below on “faint praise” 😉 ) thing I have seen from this company in decades. How did this happen? Was there an abundance of hallucinogenic compound imported and that coupled with what could only be described as an inrush of stupid weak, watered down (and free) Tranheuser-Bush weak “beer” products in their corner of the world which resulted in their regular stylists being even more incoherent and babblingly stoopid and so they hired someone with an IQ above room temperature (who refused imbibing with the aforementioned maroons!) and BAZINGA! They got something vastly better looking (and in looks that ain’t hard to do) to their normal fare?
It ain’t worthy of $65,000+ (?) U.S. (to ME!) but if it came with a decent sized in-ground cement pond (with waterfall), a manly man sized brick (plumbed to the house gas-line) BBQ and a 24 cubic foot chest freezer with at least a years supply of beef and pork (I am Cashew to the core so pork is O-Tay!) then it could be worth it. Could be.
Yup. I call it as I see and this is indeed their nicest looking setup I have seen in (Yup!) decades. And that is the nicest thing I have said about this marque in about the same amount of time. And the first time in a long time that I have not damned them with faith praise.
No hard feewings if others feel (or even think) different. I think it looks nice, and nice is nicer than looking fugly weird which is their usual approach to audio.
