Avocent SonicAdmin Software for Palm OS Named Best-In-Class Grand Prize Powered Up Award Winner by PalmSource, Inc.
SonicAdmin Software Tops More Than 4,000 Nominations
Calgary, AB, December 21, 2005 — Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ:AVCT) today announced that the SonicAdmin mobile systems administration software for Palm OS was selected as the Best-In-Class Grand Prize Winner by PalmSource, Inc. in its Fall 2005 U.S. Powered Up awards competition. Avocent SonicAdmin software provides secure remote management of servers and network equipment from a Palm Powered wireless handheld device. SonicAdmin software enables mobile resolution of critical IT events whenever and wherever they occur across the enterprise without the need for IT staff to return to a fixed location to diagnose and address a problem.
“We are extremely pleased to receive this recognition from PalmSource,” said Derek Ball, chief regional officer of Avocent Corporation and general manager of the Avocent Mobile Technologies division. “SonicAdmin software on a Palm handheld device allows IT staff to respond instantly to critical system events, regardless of their location, and to handle routine tasks such as resetting user passwords, while ‘on the run’, which is often the case in a busy IT department.”
The Fall 2005 U.S. Powered Up Awards were sponsored by PalmSource, Palm, Inc., Cingular Wireless, PalmGear.com, a division of Motricity, and CNET Download.com. The Powered Up Award winners, were selected by a panel of judges from the sponsors. Applications were evaluated on the basis of innovation, popularity, benefits, ease-of-use and support.
“The Powered Up Awards were designed to recognize those Palm OS developers who have created innovative applications representing the best of breed in the Palm Powered Economy,” said Albert Chu, vice president of business development for PalmSource. “SonicAdmin from Avocent is truly deserving of the Best-in-Class Grand Prize because it exemplifies a Palm OS application that truly empowers the user and, at the same time, takes advantage of the advanced features of Palm Powered phones and mobile devices.”
SonicAdmin software will be featured in numerous web sites, email and newsletters over the next month from PalmSource, Palm, Cingular Wireless, PalmGear, a division of Motricity, and CNET Download.com.
