Founded in 1979, Denmark-based Audiovector has been quietly making a mark in the high-end loudspeaker space with a growing line-up. In 2023, Audiovector announced that its speaker line was becoming available in the U.S. When Audiovector went to High End Munich 2024, they brought their new Trapeze Reimagined speakers to the show.
The Trapeze Reimagined
Audiovector’s release of the new Trapeze Reimagined (aka Trapeze Ri) is inspired by the original 1979 Trapeze (known then as the Trapez), the first Audiovector loudspeaker. The Trapeze Ri harkens back to the past but features the latest, most innovative technology available.
In 1979, Ole Klifoth created the iconic Trapeze with the goal of reproducing the sound of the concert hall as closely as possible. As a result, he created the blueprint for all Audiovector speakers to come – including the focus on linear dynamics and linear phase through a 6 dB per octave crossover.
The drivers used were all low-compression types (modified Scanspeak and Dynaudio drivers) with the goal of creating a linear impulse response.
The new Trapeze Ri is based on the same principles as the original Trapeze/Trapez model.
Trapeze Ri Basics
From CEO Mads Klifoth: “As we build on our 45-year legacy, our focus remains on upholding our founding values while pushing the boundaries of audio technology,…Audiovector is dedicated to growing our presence around the world – and the Trapeze Ri embodies our commitment to captivating audio enthusiasts worldwide with a uniquely natural sound, timeless Danish-inspired design, and uncompromising quality down to the finest details.”
The Trapeze Ri features a 3-way floor-standing angled design with a 12-inch high-power mid/bass driver, 5-inch-high speed midrange, and purpose-designed Audiovector SEC Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter.
Tech Note: The tweeter is based on the original design by Dr. Oscar Heil.
The three drivers of Trapeze Ri combine to achieve even power and flat frequency response to match Brûel & Kjaer’s ideal room response. A diffraction-absorbing felt area around the tweeter and midrange drivers helps to create a rare and natural soundstage that transports the listener to the heart of a live event. The low-frequency tuning, meanwhile, adds weight and drama to any music.
The extremely low distortion of the bass driver allows natural and dynamic vocals as well as rich sound without boom or bloom.
The combined characteristics of the bass, midrange, and tweeter, deliver an open, rich, musical reproduction of all kinds of music in all kinds of settings. The Trapeze Ri also incorporates several design techniques to create a cabinet that eliminates standing waves.
More from CEO Mads Klifoth: “Although far from the ubiquitous shape of conventional slim cabinets, the Trapeze Ri – excels in transporting the listener to the atmospheric heart of a live event, as close as possible to the stage and the performers. We achieve this sensation by placing a diffraction-absorbing felt area around the treble and midrange drivers. This helps to create a rare and natural soundstage,…“
Like all Audiovector loudspeakers, the Trapeze Ri represents Danish design. With the speaker drivers angled toward the listener yet remaining parallel to the back wall, the lopsided cabinet adds complements any room.
Finishes
The Trapeze Ri uses real wood veneers in combination with standard matte finishes: Nordic Oak, Black Ash, Italian Walnut, and White Silk. In addition, a black cloth grille is included.
Tip: Custom Piano Colors are available on request (may require an additional fee).
