Atlantic Technology joined with Onkyo to win the Best Audio Demo Experience award at the Electronic House Expo (EHX) in Long Beach in early November. Onkyo and Atlantic Technology have now shared this award for two years in a row.
“We were all very proud to be invited to join with Onkyo in this competition, and are even more thrilled to have won,” said Atlantic Technology President, Peter Tribeman. “When you combine the best speakers with the best electronics, and put some of the industry’s smartest minds into the room set up, it is hard to go wrong. With the expert help of Onkyo’s product manager, Brian Sandifer and our own Jason Marcure, both companies spent many hours setting up the room to get it just right. With DVD Audio disc pressings of the Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby along with a clip from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on Blu-ray in Dolby True HD mode, the results were simply amazing.”
The winning system was designed around Onkyo’s TX-NR906 THX Ultra2 Plus AV receiver with their DV-BD606 Blu-ray player and DV-SP506 Universal Audio DVD player as sources. The loudspeaker system was Atlantic Technology’s top-of-the-line 8200e 7.1-channel THX Ultra certified system with dual 642e subwoofers. The video display was provided by a Mitsubishi HC-7000 projector with a Draper Onyx Series video screen. The entire system had a total cost of under $20,000, which is far less than most other exhibitors’ systems competing for top demonstration honors in EHX’s so-called Demo Alley.
“It was a thrill to win this award again,” said Keith Haas, Onkyo’s Director of Sales. “The collaboration of these companies working together during EHX continues to be exceptional. The setup maximizes the potential of home theater sound and how to get superior performances from a $2,300 AV receiver going head-to-head with component systems costing many times more.”
In his recent article about EHX, Tom LeBlanc, CE Pro senior writer and one of the Demo Alley judges, described the Onkyo/Atlantic demo as a”transcendent sonic demo. Through an Onkyo 906 receiver and full array of Atlantic Technology speakers, the group blasted a remixed version of Beatles’ Day in the Life. The intricate details of the song were never so pronounced. Meanwhile, the total price of the components in the room falls under $20,000.”
In addition to joining with the Onkyo demonstration, Atlantic Technology speakers were also used by AVAD, who took their own awards for Most Informative Video Demo and Most Informative Audio Demo while using Atlantic Technology speakers.
