Video Reference Series scaling technology from Anchor Bay Technologies, Inc. helps Arcam’s newest DVD player achieve quality 1080p output while speeding their time to market.
CAMPBELL, CA — May 31, 2006 — Anchor Bay Technologies, Inc. (ABT), a leading supplier of system and semiconductor video processing ASICs is pleased to announce that its ABT1010 Precision Video Scaling Technology has been selected by Arcam for use in their new DiVA DV137, 1080p upscaling universal DVD player. With the official launch of their Video Reference Series (VRS) brand recently announced to the advanced digital TV market, Anchor Bay now provides equipment manufacturers and end customers a diverse set of video processing solutions.
The ABT1010 engine available in the DV137 is based on proprietary video scaling technologies that can independently scale an image horizontally and vertically to achieve an outstanding picture quality for today’s high resolution video displays. The ABT1010 is completely flexible, accepting 480p/576p formats and outputting any resolution from VGA (640×480) to 1080p (1920×1080) with no ringing or other artifacts often found in lesser quality scaling engines.
“Arcam is proud to have Anchor Bay’s VRS Precision Video Scaling Technology in the new DV137. No other scaling solution we found could deliver the reference quality performance up to 1080p at such an extraordinary value. The ABT1010 chips were easy to install and configure allowing us to focus on getting the DV137 to market on time,” said Charlie Brennan, CEO of ARCAM. Arcam’s new DV137 is the company’s first ever universal DVD player. Anchor Bay’s ABT1010 engine allows the DV137 to supply high resolution pictures direct to the display using its HDMI output, bypassing the low cost scaling chips inside most of today’s digital video displays.
“We are honored to have Arcam recognize our superior video scaling technology over other available solutions. Anchor Bay’s Precision Video Scaling technology is the reference standard for upconverting standard definition video from DVD players to higher definition formats including 1080p, and is a perfect complement to the already outstanding audio/video quality available on the DV137,” said Anchor Bay Technologies’ Vice President of Technology, C.H Chee.
Anchor Bay’s Precision Video Scaling is but one of the video processing solutions marketed under the VRS umbrella. Other VRS brand technologies include Anchor Bay’s RightRate, AutoCUE-C, Precision AV LipSync, and the new Precision Deinterlacing technology. Manufacturing partners can choose to be Powered by ABT by incorporating Anchor Bay’s Precision Video Scaling, or display the powerful VRS brand from Anchor Bay by utilizing all video processing solutions under the VRS-brand umbrella.
