Following the 2024 release of the compact SpinBase 2 speaker system, which fits under any turntable, Andover Audio has unveiled a new, upgraded model: the SpinBase MAX 2. The MAX 2 takes the Spin Series to the next level with an Acoustic Suspension enclosure design, delivering improved sound quality and performance.
Like the SpinBase 2, the SpinBase MAX 2 features Andover’s patented IsoGroove™ Technology, which eliminates unwanted feedback, allowing any turntable to sit directly on top without compromising sound quality.
From Bob Hazelwood, Andover’s Director of Engineering and Product: “For the MAX 2, we moved the SpinBase from a vented to a sealed enclosure, to offer a significant improvement in bass quality,…Although the MAX 2 does play louder than the previous version, our goal was to also deliver more apparent detail and better tonality. The design also offers a more gradual low-frequency rolloff, with the benefit of richer, more extended bass. Overall, I’d say the SpinBase MAX 2 has a more refined sound, with greater neutrality and a more extended frequency range.”
New Speaker Driver Complement
The SpinBase MAX 2’s Acoustic Suspension enclosure houses six drivers: two 3/4″ silk-dome tweeters and four 3.5″ woofers. This setup delivers a wide dynamic range, punchy bass, and crisp highs, ensuring every genre sounds its best. Like the original SpinBase, the MAX 2 offers a 270° panoramic soundstage for an immersive listening experience.
More Power
The SpinBase MAX 2 features a Dual Direct-Drive Class-D amplifier with separate amplifiers for the woofers and tweeters, delivering a total output of 100 watts. Each of the two woofers on the left and right channels is powered by a 35W amplifier, while each tweeter gets its own 15W amplifier channel. This setup (2 x 35W + 2 x 15W) increases power for a clearer, more impactful sound that fills the room.
Pro Tip: For even more bass, you can add an external subwoofer.
Flexible Connectivity
The SpinBase MAX 2 offers versatile connectivity with Phono and Line (Aux) inputs, a Digital Optical input, and USB flash-drive support. It also features a subwoofer output for enhanced bass and a headphone output for high-quality wired listening.
Bluetooth Compatibility
The SpinBase MAX 2 features separate chips for a stable two-way Bluetooth connection, ensuring Bluetooth headphones stay paired regardless of the input. Users can stream directly from smartphones, tablets, or computers and wirelessly transmit to Bluetooth-enabled speakers or headphones. (Note: Bluetooth codec support was not specified, so it would need to be clarified by the manufacturer.)

Control
The SpinBase MAX 2 includes a user-friendly IR remote for adjusting volume, switching inputs, and fine-tuning bass and treble from anywhere in the room.
The Look
Andover Audio’s SpinBase MAX 2 keeps the clean, compact, and classic look of the original, featuring a heathered fabric wrap and the brand’s signature main control knob.
Users have a choice of a black or white finish to complement Andover’s entire Spin Collection (available separately): the SpinSub subwoofer, the SpinDeck 2 turntable, and the SpinStand, which holds up to 150 LPs.
Comparison
Although SpinBase MAX and original SpinBase have been discontinued, they may still be available via third-party retailers.

The Bottom Line
Andover Audio has found a sweet spot in the turntable space, offering smart, space-saving solutions like the SpinBase series. The new SpinBase MAX 2 builds on that with more power (100W), better sound from six drivers, improved connectivity (including optical, USB, phono, Bluetooth in/out), and subwoofer support—all packed into a sleek, compact design.
It’s an all-in-one system for vinyl lovers who want room-filling sound without the clutter. Think Sonos meets Pro-Ject, but with a nostalgic twist and better value.

Over the past few years I have purchased 4 of the original Spinbase and 1 one Spinstand from Andover Audio.
I have given as presents to family and friends, 2 of the Spinbase and kept 2 for myself along with the Spinstand. I use a powered subwoofer with either of my own Spinbase in either an 8″ or 10″ size.
I really like the Spinbase as it makes it easy to enjoy my modest record collection all while looking very nice in a rather modern albeit modest way.
A great product by a wonderful company that I cannot recommend enough!

ORT,
Really good company. Still use the SpinStage as one of my “go-to” budget phono pre-amplifiers. I do wish they would make a table in the $500 to $750 range.
