All-In-One Audio, Video And Navigation Solutions Available
As consumer demand for in-car navigation grows, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of automotive mobile media solutions, added to its navigation line up two all-in-one, 2-DIN audio/video/navigation (AVN) systems, the IVA-W203/P1 and IVA-W505/P1. The units not only provide high-quality touch-screen control over navigation functionality, but also offer myriad entertainment and connectivity options including iPod, satellite radio, HD Radio and Bluetooth. For consumers who need a 1-DIN space solution, the IVA-D106 Mobile Media Station can be paired with a navigation drive to create an audio/video plus navigation (AV+N) solution.
“Alpine’s AVN systems are ideal for consumers who want a simple solution to integrate all of today’s ‘must have’ digital entertainment and navigation functions in the car along with Alpine’s legendary sound quality,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, marketing, Alpine Electronics.
The navigation features for these systems include:
- Preloaded NAVTEQ map data of the United States and Canada, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
- Four intuitive map viewing options, including 3D mapping, 2D full map, split map and turn-by-turn arrow view.
- Preloaded unique Points of Interest (POI), including restaurants, hotels and gas stations.
- Turn-by-turn instructions delivered by Text-To-Speech (TTS) technology, which announces actual street names. Directions may be given in English, Spanish or French.
- Exclusive Graphical User Interface (GUI for Drivers) with intuitive screen graphics.
The IVA-W203/P1 features a 6.5-inch QVGA touch-screen display in a double-DIN form factor. In addition to playing DVD-R/-RW/MP3/WMA audio and video files, popular digital media sources such as satellite radio, HD Radio with multicasting and iPod can be integrated into and controlled through the IVA-W203/P1. (Separate adapters, tuner boxes and service subscriptions required.)
The IVA-W505/P1 is a full-featured DVD/CD/MP3/AAC/WMA/DivX unit with a 7-inch WVGA touch-screen with a 1.15 million-pixel display. The IVA-W505/P1 is a versatile AVN head unit that provides complete media center capabilities through touch-screen control over all in-vehicle digital media sources.
The IVA-D106 is a 1-DIN unit with a 7-inch touch-screen that motorizes out from the chassis. It plays CD/DVD and has built-in 18W RMS x 4 power (at CEA-2006 Power Ratings). By adding the NVE-P1 navigation drive and PMD-DOK2 docking station, the IVA-D106 becomes a complete AV+N solution.
iPod connectivity for the IVA-W203/P1 is made possible through Alpine’s KCE-422i Full Speed Connection for iPod cable (sold separately). On the IVA-D106, iPod connectivity is available through the KCE-430iV Audio/Video Full Speed Connection for iPod cable, which comes included with the unit. This connectivity allows drivers to control their iPod via the head unit’s touch-screen. Both units show advanced digital media tag information by displaying artist, album, song and playlist data for easy file navigation. The innovative Percentage Search feature, which assigns sections of iPod files to the scroll bar at the bottom of the monitor, makes searching for a specific song quick and easy.
The IVA-W505/P1 uses a USB connection for iPod (included) that provides the same iPod control features, but also allows for playback from USB memory sticks and MP3 players. The IVA-W505/P1 also has iTunes Tagging functions when paired with the Alpine TUA-T550HD HD Radio Tuner (sold separately). When users hear a song they like on an HD Radio station that is broadcasting metadata, they can “Tag” the song by pressing and holding the ” * ” (asterisk) button on the head unit. Information about these Tagged songs is transferred to the iPod. When the iPod is connected to the computer, iTunes automatically presents the songs in a new Tagged playlist so the user has the option to preview, buy and download the songs.
The Bluetooth module that comes with the IVA-W505/P1 and IVA-W203/P1 (and is optional with the IVA-D106) provides convenient hands-free phone connectivity when used with a Bluetooth-enabled phone. Users can answer and place phone calls, with the conversation played through the vehicle’s speakers. An external microphone is included to allow for optimal performance placement in the vehicle. Calls can be dialed out using the on-screen 12-key phone dial pad, and call data such as Dialed Calls, Missed Calls and Received Calls can be displayed. If a POI is chosen from the navigation menu, the user can call the POI directly via a touch of a button on screen.
