Update 10/18/2023: Netflix Increases Premium Plan Price to $22.99!
Streaming services have gone through some major changes in the past year and some of the biggest changes have impacted Netflix customers. With two major Hollywood strikes underway and some serious questions about what new content will be available for streaming customers to watch in Q4 and into 2024 — this seems like poor timing on the part of Netflix.
Why would Netflix do this right now?
The streaming network is earning more money from its “Standard with Ads” subscription plan and feels that consumers have demonstrated a willingness to pay and therefore should. Netflix might need that revenue if the strikes are prolonged and subscribers start to cancel.
With that in mind, Netflix has instituted three changes that affect subscribers:
In addition, Netflix has just officially announced it is ending its Basic Ad-Free Plan. This means that subscribers who don’t want to see advertising in the Netflix viewing experience will have to move up to the Standard or Premium Plans, which means more out-of-pocket monthly expenses.
