We’ve been wondering for almost a month if Munich High-End 2021 was going to happen in September and now we know the answer. Nein.
If you’ve been following the numbers in Europe and in Germany, COVID infection rates have been extremely high and vaccination rates on the low end. Israel, America, and the U.K. are dramatically ahead of the rest of the world in terms of vaccinations which really only helps those of us who live in those 3 countries; not that I can visit my kid in Israel until July. Thanks Bibi.
Canada is still struggling with new cases, poor distribution of vaccines, and climbing ICU numbers so it’s almost impossible to imagine a hi-fi show in Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver in 2021.
Justin Trudeau refuses to let anyone in without making you pay $3,000 to stay in a COVID hotel so even those of us with Canadian passports and dual-citizenship are unlikely to attend under such rules.
Back to Germany. The High End Society is making the most logical move here because they clearly have zero faith in the ability of the E.U. to get enough people vaccinated or relax travel restrictions. They have acted above and beyond in regard to this show and we’ll all have to wait another 12 months for the world’s greatest stereo show.
From their press release: “The HIGH END 2021 trade show, planned to take place in Munich from September 9 to 12, 2021, has now been moved to May 2022 due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The HIGH END SOCIETY Service GmbH reached this decision after a reassessment of the current situation and in close cooperation with the Board of the HIGH END SOCIETY e.V.
The world’s leading audio trade show will therefore return to its usual spring timeslot and be held at the MOC Event Center in Munich from May 19 to 22, 2022. The IPS – International Parts + Supply event, which was due to be held alongside the HIGH END, has also be postponed until the new year and will open its doors for the first time on May 19 and 20, 2022.”
