My ps2 keeps freezing after about an hour of play (need help on fixing the problem)

i just got mlb 2006 and when i play it for about an hour it freezes please tell me if someone else has this problem or if somebody knows how to fix it(my ps2 is about 3 years old)(when it freezes, screen usually goes white, not all the time though)
