Do I need firewire on my computer?

I have a Canon MV5 camcorder and recently bought a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1718 laptop running Vista. Although quite new I find that the PC only has USB ports and no firewire. Is there any way that I can download video from my camcorder without installing an IEEE 1394 board?

I have obviously read the manual, all I was asking was is there any other way of connecting my camcorder by DV out to a laptop which doesn't have firewire.
