| Need some guidance here. I want to transfer many tapes still on Hi8 to PC for editing and storage. My PC does have USB. Camera has lazerlink to transfer to VCR. (done many times) What hardware do I need to utilize for the transfer? IE Can I go from Lazerlink to PC? Or, VCR to PC? and what is needed. Also, I am replacing my desktop with a laptop soon. Should I wait until I get the new PC? Thinking about a Dell 8600. Thoughts. |
| Gerry, I would suggest that you make sure the new computer you're getting has a FireWire (IEEE1394) port. You will need it for the Hollywood DV bridge, which is what I would recommend you use for transferring your video to your computer. You can find more information about the Hollywood DV bridge here: http://www.video-direct.com/accessories/dazzle/ I was unable to locate the product page at http://www.dazzle.com. You should have a look at http://www.eBay.com as well to find a great deal on it. There are user ratings of this product at http://www.epinions.com I always check ratings at Epinions before I buy a product. Good luck! |
Derek | The TRV715 doesn't have firewire. Firewire makes exact copies of the digital data but the source should be firwire. What you need is a video capture card. See http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPage_n.asp?Product_ID=1426&Langue_ID=7 if you have USB 2.0, http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPage_n.asp?Product_ID=1172&Langue_ID=7 if you have USB 1.1 and http://www.ati.com/products/multimedia.html if you don't mind getting your hands dirty by cracking your machine open and you want the best picture. The USB versions can also be used with laptops. Hope that helps. |
Christof Munoz | You want an EXTERNAL digitaizer. I bought a pinnacle card & it caused a hardware incompatibility and screwed up my whole computer. I had to send the card back. I ended up getting an external card, the Canopus ADVC100, and that works great! (but my computer was never the same after that stupid pinnacle card). |
Christof Munoz | P.S. the Canopus ADVC100 plugs into your computer's firewire ports. |

The problem is... 1. when i tranfer the movie by using USB, the movie is transfered but with a lots of jerk. The audio is fine. 2. when i use my firewire port, the software detects the camera. but as i give the command to capture, it says CAMCORDER NOT FOUND. My PC configuration is PIII/550Mhz with 256MB of RAM. Where can be the problem? |

New member Username: Millsy5Post Number: 1 Registered: Dec-04 | Hi, I'm having problems recording the sound when I try to capture video from the VCR to the PC. I connected my VCR to the video capture card (DVD Xpert Maker Video Capture Card/Burn DVD/MPEG 4,2,1) and the audio is connected to Line IN on the soundcard. When I run the software and capture the data everything seems fine i.e. I can see the video and hear the audio. However when I play the new MPEG file on the PC, the video is fine but the audio is from the microphone on the PC. When capturing the data it recorded from the mic and not the VCR. Does anyone know what my problem might be? Thanks! |
