Using Mybook ext HD to firewire then burn dvd

I noticed some WD Mybook Ext Hard drives have the firewire. Would it work to firewire it to the mybook from the mini dv player, then burn the dvd from the Mybook external through my computer... I'll investigate, but if anyone has a quick answer.... Thanks

The firewire connects on the WD external Mybook are for Daisy chaining.
