For a Nikon D50. I bought a pkg deal with an 18-55 lens for my high school journalism students to use for yearbook photography. After only 2 months, the camera has been dropped and the lens shattered.
What should I buy as a replacement? Like the camera, I am buying this out of my pocket so I need the most bang for my buck. Need the most inexpensive lens I can buy for general purpose photography by novices.
You guys are the experts! Thanks for your suggestions.
If you really want your novices to learn, get a single focal length lens like the 50mm 1.8. This will teach your students how to compose with what they have. A great lens for about $100.
You can also look at what Tamron and Sigma has to offer in the 18-70 mm range.
