Use camcorder to record from dvd player

I want to copy home movie on dvd to canon zr70 minidv tape so I can load into computer to make copies. I can't make the canon function as a recording vcr. I am connected with s-video and yellow/white cable. Is there another way to do this?

Doesn't your computer have a DVD player/reader?
Why not just do a direct copy from your DVD tot he PC?
If you are planning to make copies via the computer, how are you going to accomplish this if your PC does not have a DVD burner/player?
