Hi all,

I'm new here and looking for advise.

I see a lot of questions answered in this forum like I need Firewire to transfer video.

I have a Sharp VL-Z5U which has a 4 pin DV terminal(IEEE1394), the manual mentions a DV cable.

My Adaptec DuoConnect for Notebooks has a 4 pin and a 6 pin Firewire port.

Questions:
1. do I use a "4 to 4" or "4 to 6" pin cable?
2. do I use a "DV to Firewire" cable?
3. do I use a "Firewire to Firewire" cable?
4. Windows Movie Maker or Ulead Media Studio?

Which software are you content with for video editing?

Thanks a bunch.

Selvan

Hi Joe Echols,

Thanks for the reply but could you please place your questions in a thread of your own?

I think Home Theater Setup & Planning is a more appropriate forum to post in.

Go to the link below and click on "Start New Thread" above the latest thread.

"1. do I use a "4 to 4" or "4 to 6" pin cable?

4. Windows Movie Maker or Ulead Media Studio?

Selvan,
I use a 4 to 6 pin cable, and all are called by any of the names you mentioned.
I used Ulead software to edit videos.

cheers

Berny,

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding cable quality, do you think the cable linked below will do the job?

it should work. Have you checked the manual on compatible cables?

Berny,

Thanks again for the reply.

At that price, I have not much to loose. The manual says it's a DV terminal an than in brackets (IEEE1394). I called them and they said either a 4-4 or 4-6 would work as long as it's a part# IEEE1394, it's hardly a part# but I got the message.

Thanks a bunch for the support.

My next step would be to pick the software that'll make VCD or SVCD movies, I was thinking TMPGE Plus V2.58, what do you think?

P.S. I got Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6

Sounds like you are on the right track, but I have not used TMPGE so I can't tell you if it is good or not.

What would you recommend for ripping VCD's, would Ulead do the trick?
