Always a hot topic. What is your stance on this issue? I feel that we, by the constitution, have the right to bear arms, and that if the government were to decide we weren't allowed to have the guns, that those who still wanted them (i.e. criminals) could still get them illegally. In fact, it is easier to get an illegal handgun in FL than a legal one. lol
Any thoughts or opinions? Try to keep the flaming to a minimum, this one can get heated. haha
I should probably mention that i personally do not own any firearms, yet. I am saving for one, but it's not really a priority.
I dont mind guns, i own a few myself, I live in a bad area so i feel that i am more protected with a firearm than with a baseball bat. You just have to be responsible and only use it if you really have to... Here in AZ there's a law that might get passed in the next few months that will allow anyone to carry a firearm with out taking the 8 hour course. Currently its only a misdemeanor to carry one with out a permit. And its really easy to get a gun here at the gun shows. You just show an id and social and 5 min back they come back with your gun and you are ready to go. Some just ask to see your id to see if you are of the legal age as long as you got cash they don't care...

That sorta thing is my problem with guns. I'm all for the constitutional right to bear arms. IMO I'd probably make it harder to get them though. More thorough background checks, waiting periods (to help eliminate impulsive decisions), and more required training/classes.
For anyone who wants to own a gun responsibly, and for the right reasons, none of the above things should be a problem or an infringement of their rights.
I'm moving to AZ here in socal its hard to get one. But it's really easy to get stolen/burn one. That's why people don't go to the shop's to buy them. I think if we had a law similar to AZ you would see a lot of people going to shop's.
Properly handled it is no more dangerous than your car. I agree that if you ban all hand guns it actually takes any control you have AWAY. Did prohibition in the 20's eliminate alcohol consumption? No. It forced those to make their own outside of sanitary production facilities. Did eliminating tobacco commercials on TV thwart the youth? No. It made them only more curious.
Also, allowance of such controlled substances has generated tax revenue in the trillions.
As far as firearms, when my children are of proper age I will consider one for hahas. For now though, it's one more risk I choose not to expose them to.
Of course, guns and the right to bear arms is our constitutional right...there just needs to be 1 national federal standard process and requirements to obtain them...having each state regulate this is a nightmare and ridiculous, cause U may be legal in 1 state but drive through another on the way deer hunting and NOT be legal in that state...
Call it socialism or whatever ya want, but gun control needs to be Federally regulated via the local police, FBI, and Bureau of Alcohol and Firearms....so the nation is all on the same page..
I used to have to pull over in between states and take my radar detector out and put it in my trunk, just to avoid the fines. Stupid.
Other than the accidental deaths due to childhood curiosity and ignorance in general a gun is simply a tool. State regulations and laws are ideally supposed to match the demographics amongst the people in the state. After all some rely on firearms to catch game to feed their family. Others need them to protect themselves from those who obtained said firearms illegally with the intent of harm. After all the police won't be able to help you the instant you're facing a barrel when they break in at 3am.
Not to mention all the small store owners who have shot at and successfully defended their property because of their right to bear arms. I freaking love those clips lol. It sends a message: BACK THE FLUCK OFF!!! I CHOOSE NOT TO BE A VICTIM ANYMORE!!!!
I agree Paul. It's an intimidation factor more so than anything else. If a 14 year old came up to me with a gun and demanded my money, I'd give it to him but if he came up to me without a gun, I'd laugh him back to 5th grade. The gun just brings a whole new element into play and changes everything. Just one millisecond of a bad temper and it's over for a person.
Btw, this thread gave me an idea to start a weekly debate thread in the OT section
