so i was at the shop where i get all my stuff done and i told the guy i wanted to do the big 3 in 0 awg and he looked at me crazy! he understood what i was talkin bout but he didnt think it was necesarry with a stock alt and he said in his 8 years workin at this shop no one has ever got that done with a stock alt? but i told him i still wanted it done and he told me to think of a fair price so what do yall think would be a fair price, i really like this place he really takes care of me and cuts me good deals so i want to know what a price would be thats fair for me and him?
In 0ga isn't necessary with a stock alt it will only supply its rating in current which will not evevn get close to a 4ga worth. You should update your alt, less straing on the alt. Polo.
2 runs of 0ga from alt+ to batt + (charging) 1 run of 0ga to chassis 1 run of 0ga to alt casing (neg) 2 runs of 0ga to back distro blk (pos) (blue + red) 1 run of 4ga to starter (factory) 1 run of 4ga to cars electronics (factory) 1 run of 4ga to engine grd (factory)
1 300a HO alternator!
I would let him leave ur factory wires in place, and just add additional big 3 wires!!
of course the 4.3 vortecs are good motors! any vortec is good... look into the 6.0 vortecs..
grant that was a marine battery with ring terminals, I also purchased a additional battery terminal with a extra set of ring terminals... I know its alot of wires, but the parts was under 5$
the positive has 2 poles with threads, and also does the negatives... then they have nuts to tighten on the threads...
On my Grand Am I just did one from batter to alternator, batter to chassis, and battery to engine (alternator) and called it a day. Haven't seen anything below 13.5 volts at full volume...
i cant remember, but in total on HO alts I prob kicked about 700$ Im gettin ready to send this 1 back and get it in a new case for a new suv, and added external voltage regulator!
me and Nate are pretty cool, Ive got alot of alternators from him! good stuff
4.3 is pretty good but needs good oil. When cold and above 80K they develope a slight rod knock only audible (just barely) when first ran and until it warms up. I have a 96 blazer and it does it my brother has a 97 and it does it also a buddy of mine has an 95, it also does it. It doesn't seem to effect it as for I have 140+k and it runs like a champ. Also be sure to change the O2 sensor, EGR valve and have the injectors cleaned. GoodLuck...Polo.
$2200 is just about right on what you should be paying for that vehicle. I got a 4.3L Vortec in my 94 Bravada. Engine runs very well and still strong. I been without bumps though for about 3 weeks cause. something is wrong with the front differential or transfer case. or something. so I cant drive it. I'm stuck driving my 89 grand am with all stock stereo.
