Thought I'd start a thread for this so it will be easier to avoid for those who might not be interested. lol.

This will be fun Kegger. I've got one design pulled together and will try to get 1 or 2 more. Maybe you'll see something you like.

You mentioned you were considering red or green as your colors. The rack currently looks like its a Kelly Green with Burgandy? Gotta get you out of the 80's. Here are some schemes incorporating variations of red or green. These colors are all Behr paints available at Home Depot:

Design 1
-------------
Wall color: Red Hot - SG190 or Pacific Pine 430D7
Trim color - if you go conservative: Glow - WB310
Trim color - if you want to be bold: Beluga - 770F7
Cabinet color: Beluga - 770F7

This color palette can be seen at the following link (scroll down to the section "The Ancient Traditions of China" then click on the picture that has the red lanterns):

Color Scheme

If you went with a palette like this, I think the red would probably be better for the wall color. The Pacific Pine might be darker than you want. One drawback to using strong colors like these is you will need to make sure you use a tinted primer before painting otherwise you won't get good coverage. Even with the tinted primer, expect to put no less than 2 coats and more likely at least 3 coats to get good coverage.

Also, you could do a variation on the traditional way of painting. Instead of having all the walls the same color, paint the wall and any trim behind the equipment in the Beluga color and the other walls Red Hot or Pacific Pine.

If you went with this color palette, you could have accent pieces such as pillows, rugs or wall coverings with multiple colors such greens, yellows, reds, and oranges. I would suggest patterns in the accent pieces, perhaps stripes which would be more masculine than floral patterns and more palatable than geometric patterns. Here's an example of a pillow that would work in the scheme (but you could probably find similar pillows at a cheaper price than Pottery Barn's):

Pillow Sample

Either of these rugs would be great in this scheme (at the link click on View in Room to get a good feel for how it would look in a room):

Rug Sample1

Rug Sample2

Also, natural fiber rugs such as sisal or jute would work well, too.

How about a few posters:

Poster3

Your "baby", the sofa, would work in the scheme too. But, would you consider a slipcover for it? In this scheme a Khaki or Sage Green solid or stripes would work great. Black would too but might be a pain in that it would show dust and dirt. But, slipcovers can be washed.

I dont' know what kind of furniture you have in the way of tables, etc but, if you do have these items and depending on their condition, you might consider painting them the same color as the cabinet.

The Minnesota Vikings trashcan would probably not work in this color scheme. lol...nothing against the Vikes - I have Culpepper and Bennett on my fantasy football team this season....

Ok, so that's one design. Hope you like it. I'll see if I can pull together another suggestion.

How about a Michigan Wolverines-inspired color scheme?

Wall Behind Cabinet: Michigan Navy Blue (get a color match)
Cabinet: Michigan Navy Blue
Remaining Walls: A variation on Michigan yellow: Maize
Trim: Pure White

Here are links showing examples of the colors (couldn't find paint but paint stores can usually color match. The yellow is not a bright or pastel yellow but is a muted yellow.

Sofa Slipcover: Denim

Rug: Sisal or Jute

This color scheme might make the room lighter than you preferred. But, maybe that's not such a bad thing. :-)

in the first setup.

i like the second rug.

then the 1st and third posters.

out of the colors i like the red hot and pacific pine.

and yes a slip cover would be great.
they make those for a large 2 piece v shaped couch
with reclyning chairs on each end?

and i like all three examples of pillow colors.

i have some rugs/pillows/blankets/posters i need to post pics
of to see what can be used.

by the way i run a fantasy football league. we draft
next saturday. sundays at my place can get pretty crazy!
with 2 or three games going at once.

how about another design based on black/silver/grey/peuter.
something along those lines!

with the rack being a grey/silver or peuter.
and can the blocks be say grey with the rack being peuter? just wondering.

or something where the blocks are not a completly
different color but simular to the main.

would there be anyway to tie in the things i did like
from the previous three into a scheme like this?

youv'e done exceptionally well so far and i see
you've spent quite some time on this.

that was what i meant by no hurry! do it at your leasure
and don't let this intrude with your own quality time.
that is all i was trying to convey!

did not mean to make it sound as if none of this
will make any difference because it will be so
long from now.

on the contrary if i get this figured out it will
inspire me to do it quicker!

thanks a lot!

Kegger,

I was just teasing you earlier. This weekend is one of those where you stay inside and hope no one calls or stops by. Next weekend though we've got a festival to go to on Saturday, a Panther's game to go to on Saturday night and a birthday dinner on Sunday. So, it was now or never! lol

If you like the blue wall color in the 3rd design, this would work very well with the idea you have for the rack: pewter rack with gray blocks. Your idea on that color scheme for the rack is great!

Sofa Slipcover: Khaki - don't know if they make 'em for V-shaped couches with recliners tho'. But, you might be able to get the fabric and have a local tailor custom sew one for you.

Rug: Sisal or Jute

Pillows:

Blue Stripe Pillow

Same posters as before from Design 3 - just throw out the silly one with the kid drummer.

One thing you might consider too, instead of framing posters, there's a process where it can be mounted on wood with a clear coat. Gives it a unique and cool appearance. Here is some information on that process (there are probably other companies that do this, too):

Paints in this design are Glidden.

If you want to go with a black/silver/grey/pewter color scheme, this would be fairly monochromatic. You could keep the accessories monochromatic or you could use accessories to bring in some color. Personally, I like to have a little color in there but that doesn't mean that's the best way.

Wall color: Granite Grey (collection card NC54)
Trim: Pure White or Glossy Black
Cabinet: rack (Obsidian Glass - collection card NC54) detail blocks (Granite Grey - collection card NC54)

To see colors, go to the following link, select Color Selector, scroll the bar at the bottom to the right and look for color sample chip marked NC54.

Glidden Color Collection Card NC54

Slipcover: Khaki
Rug:

Natural w/ Black Border

Posters:
Use these to bring in some color. These are the ones you said you liked from design 1:

I'm having a little trouble with inspiration right now in the areas of pillows and rugs for this scheme. A rug with color and pattern might be better than the one suggested above. Will give it some thought. Do you have a preference?

ok i like the rack and blocks but the walls may be a little to dark.

i'm thinking in between the blocks and rack.

ok that gets the rack/blocks/walls.

now i'm with you on splashing in color with accents.

whatever combo of rugs/pillows/slipcover that can
tie it all in with pastels of green/red.

i like the posters they can still fit.

a rug like the one in the first collection, second rug.
with the right colors. maybe if the center of that rug was grey or silver.

i've got some green and red pillows so i like that
color scheme. i also have a green rug.

allright i think were getting somewhere.

thanks!
