I believe 3D works well on some films, but why does almost every movie now have to be in 3D? Just like making sequels until the series is total garbage and they can't make money on it anymore, they're going to milk 3D for all they can. 3D films cost more to see so that just means more money for the companies involved. I wish they would make movies for people's enjoyment instead of fattening their pockets.
Hollywood will ALWAYS stop at nothing to thrive. That includes consistently robbing ideas past. Occasionally you'll get a an actor refusing a sequel but they too love the paydays.
3-D doesn't add much 'value' to most movies. However, it is a fine excuse to increase ticket prices from ridiculous to vulgar all the way to profane. Most current implementations of 3-D sort of remind me of the ping-pong records popular when stereo was NEW NEW NEW!
There is a slight increase in movie quality from standard Real 3D to IMAX 3D. If the movie is really special to you and you wanted the best picture possible, the IMAX 3D is worth it IMO. If you're not near an IMAX though, the normal 3D will do just fine.
I will never agree with the concept of paying to "watch" anything once the same price as to own it forever. It's already absurdly expensive now, why keep adding insult to injury? Had it not been for my kids my azz wouldn't have been inside a theater since Jackass came out.
