Just watched the original six-track Dolby stereo version of Alien framing of the 2.35:1 scope and its sharpness and colours are fantastic. The complexity of the Dolby stereo mix needs a good alignment of the matching three-screen and a good equalization of the fronts as this would appear toppy in most home cinemas.
Dialogue and dialogue panning is used effectually during chapter 3. The Air vent shaft scene where the iris closes up try and get that to lock to the centre channel on the original mix, yeah its all good stuff.
LFE.1 is used sparingly during the opening landing scenes and towards the end juts before Ripley sends the beast out the airlock!
Surrounds are eerier during the moments Kane enters the Alien egg chamber the JBL surround array makes it so damn creepy while my eyes are following what's happening around me. Still I need more surrounds this is still a classic Dolby stereo film.
