In "Leaving Las Vegas" there are a lot closeups of her where her face and especially her eyes are very expressive. But this real life vs. onscreen contrast is very common among most celebs I think. I once saw a pic of that Australian goddess Elle MacPherson on the street in jeans, t-shirt and baseball cap and no makeup, would never have recognized her. Anyways, no "Leaving Las Vegas" is actually not a downer at all---thanks in large part to a great deal of dark humor, Nicholas Cage's bottomless charisma, and the incredible jazz soundtrack. I generally hate downhill-slide movies ("Breaking The Waves" or "Requiem For A Dream") but this was really a fine mix of tragedy and comedy. There is one particularly difficult to watch gang rrape scene though, so definitely not a family movie. |
