A friend is about to buy a DVD burner, but doesn't know whether to get DVD+ or DVD-.

He needs to be able to play his new disks on his SOny DAV550 system.

Any advice?

i use +, its a little better i think

- is more compatable with other systems

they say 90% of all dvd players will read +R, 95% will read -R. however, from my experience, ANY NEW dvd player will read either, ive had my +R discs work in a APEX! lol, didn't work in a old rca though

i like the sony burners, they do both formants

I highly recommend using -R personally. it's always been praised as being the best for DVD video. I have made +R discs to try in my set-top DVD players and yet have had one to work. I use -R and everything is fine. it does depend on the player, but MOST players support -R media and not +R necessarily.

Just purchase the combo recorders that way you cant go wrong. The prices are so low for a 4x
dvd recorder it would not make sense to buy anything else.
