trying to hook up new dvd to a samsung tv/vcr combo. Only 2 input jacks on front of tv. Hooked up yellow video/out from dvd to video/in on tv. Hooked up red audio/out from dvd to single audio/in on tv. No picture or sound. Tried all channels on the tv. Is there a setting on the tv remote that I have to use? Is this type of connection possible???
dianne: When playing a DVD or video tape on your combo unit, you must switch your TV to "input" so that you can see and hear the signal. This is done by either switching via an input button on the remote or switching down through the channels on the TV to channel 2 then down again to the "input" on the TV. Your TV may have 2 sets of inputs--one in back and one in front--in which case the TV will display "Input 1" or "Input 2." Usually 1 is the back and 2 is the front.
With your hookup, you will be hearing only the right channel of the stereo output when playing a DVD. I would install a 2 male to 1 female "Y" adaptor on the red/white audio outputs on the back of the Samsung so the full R/L signal would be heard on your mono TV. These "Y" adaptors are available at any Radio Shack or any other well-stocked video section in any store.
