John Nesbitt Unregistered guest | Hey.. anyone know when the HD2+ chip will be used in a Sammy rear projector? |
John Nesbitt Unregistered guest | The New Sammy to be released at the CES trade show will have the new chip. 56incher and all future releases according to Samsung. |
New member Username: SerickPost Number: 6 Registered: 12-2003 | I've heard that the monitor they're bringing to the CES show is a prototype and that the HD2+ chip won't be available in a production model until at least summer 2004. Anyone else heard this or can confirm that they'll be available sooner? |
James Restoper Unregistered guest | So if people have not bought a DLP set yet. (I'm currently eyeing the HLN-437w and HLN507w), should people wait? Will this have the HD2+ chip? People on this board claim the HD2 chip and earlier cause problems with the green-tint/colorwheel speed. What do imagine the price for this tv would be? |
john nesbitt Unregistered guest | i just found out that it's only 720p lines of resolution. regardless of how nice it looks, the 1080p models made by other companies will look much better. i'm disgusted by the fact that so many companies are selling tv's that only go to 720p. the new dvd standard has been set at 1080p resolution and most future hdtv broadcasts will be broadcast at 1080p. obviously there are other factors, but resolution is very important. too bad for those buying 720p of resolution. |
dubz Unregistered guest | 1080p is the new standard of dvd's? where did you hear this? they learn how to make triple layer dual sided dvd's? cause that would take ALOT of room. also where did you hear that future broadcasts are going to be 1080p? there are only a few doing 1080i, they would most likely have a serious bandwidth problem transmitting all channels in 1080p. only a few 30k plus wall projectors are even 1080p cabable. |
john nesbitt Unregistered guest | yes, 1080p is the new standard of dvd's, it was just approved in November or December. no, nobody will invest in making a red laser triple-layer dvd player when they can make a blu-ray laser dvd player that will display video at 1080p, a higher resolution than current red laser dvd players. it should be clear that if high definition resolution can go to 1080p that it will become the norm, regardless of what resolution broadcasters are broadcasting in now, the technicalities have been worked out, it's a matter of $. i want an hdtv, but will not shell out thousands for one that will not display the full resolution of dvd players coming out in 6-12 months(blu-ray) nor the resolution of future over-the-air broadcasts. for more info you, search on yahoo news or google news for "1080p" "lcos" "blu-ray". |
dubz Unregistered guest | thats awesome, i just figured they sometimes have problems fitting a 3 hour 480p movie onto a dvd, guess we're getting back to '2 disc' sets, maybe they'll cut those dumb special features too. |
John Doh Unregistered guest | 1080p might be the "projected" standard to come, but in addition to the software mediums supporting 1080p, you need the hardware as well. So how long do you think it is going to take for mnaufacturers to adopt 1080p widespread to make a demand on the higher res. I say 4 years, just like every other new technology. Do you know how long 720p and 1080i have been available and you still get a "Huh??" from the everyday Joe. The Sammy DLP's supporting the HD2+ and HD3 chips will be available June/July'04, and I will be getting mine thank you very much. Another quick bit on 1080p vs. 720p, do you really think there is that much difference between the two? It's not like we're talking about the differences between 480i and 720p, or tapes to CD's....720p and 1080p are not going to be that "awe aspiring" as the previous examples were when they hit, and that will directly reflect in the demand for the higher resolution, not to mention the pricetag that comes with it. Cheers! |

Bill Allen Unregistered guest | Does anyone know (Devin?) if the analog picture quality will be improved? It seems that many have mentioned (complained?) that regular broadcast signal is, uh, less than optimal when viewed with the current DLP sets. I'm building a house, starting this spring, and I'm hoping to design a room around the needs of this type of TV. Thanks for your help guys! |
Hudson Unregistered guest | Devin, Good post. what was your source if I can ask?? I am very torn... i like the size, looks and all that jazz of the dlp 567w... what I don't like... colors are iffy,,, red is too red, green is too green, the system seems to have some troubles with skin tones and from what I have read the technology is still in the "yet to be proven category"... however, the picture for a dlp at 56" is pretty good... I have been comparing sets with a pioneer elite 53" rear projection... I have the space, the technology is proven, and the set is over 1200 less than the dlp...plus another 500 for the stand... the elite though seems to be dark and for dark seens you have to almost look a little harder... so, do i buy the pioneer? wait for the new dlp? or are the issues with the present dlp really not that bad and i should get that one.... Any thoughts.... I have a deposit on my Pioneer but it is only a deposit.... Also do you have a model number yet on the new sammy??? will any of the new chips address the color issues??? IS THERE ANY RIGHT ANSWER ON THIS??? |
New member Username: Larry_dPost Number: 17 Registered: 12-2003 | hudson- try dtvmax.com/main.htm BTW- the +HD3 chips won't be available until the end of this year and this one is will be 1080. |
New member Username: EmkmdPost Number: 23 Registered: 12-2003 | Hudson, I was in the same quandry, 567W vs 55" Mitsu Diamond. I finally went with the 507W, 56" was too big for my viewing distance. I kept waiting for the next technology. Now I have the set (almost 2 weeks)and the picture is great, no problems with colors or skin tones. I get my HD thru Comcast. There is no right answer, you just have to buy what you like. I was leaning towards the Mitsu, but the thing is massive. I am going to move in 6 months and the Samsung is only 77# I think. When I watch regular TV I do not like to stretch the image. With a 4x3 image on the Pioneer you will get burn in on the sides. THe DLP is also better when the room has more light and has a better viewing angle. The CRT is proven technology and should last a long time. I suggest you check out the Mitsu Diamond, the new model is better than the Pioneer Elite, I think. You can probably wait until late summer and get the HD2+ chip, or until then end of the year, or even next for the HD3 DLP chip. Then Intel will come out with their LCOS type set for less money. TVs are becoming like computers, always improving. But the 567W is great now. As far as the stands go, I think they are all crap (Hitachi, Sony, Samsung). Poor quality, high price, and not enough room underneath for all of your gear. I have my set propped up on a table until I move, then I'll figure something else out. My 2 cents anyway. -E My Stuff. Hudson Unregistered guest | Thanks for feedback. I liked the Mits Diamond by the way but right now I can get the Elite for 1000 less and I don't think there is a big enough improvement either way to justify the 1k (i'm fairly broke as I just bought the rest of my system!!) Glad to hear you like what you see with the 507... I watched the 567 for about an hour yesterday... it did a good job with a lot of stuff (most actually)> I watched HD (Satelitte feed) and regular.... the one program I really noticed the reds and greens and face colours was with Spiderman... her red hair, his face... overall was good... when compared with the Sony 50" and the Pioneer though just wasn't there... From a stand perspective I saw some stuff from Bello you may want to check out.. I have noticed the Stands suck as well.... i plan on having a seperate cabinet (salamander twin 40) for my stuff... Mostly because i need a lock on it.. (have a two year old) Maybe I'll go watch once more.... although not sure what I will gain!! Thanks fo rhte input. H |
C# Unregistered guest | Hudson, if you are about to pull the trigger on that HLN567W, don't. Wait until Samsung releases the new HLP models possibly as soon as middle of March. I had an HLN567W myself but had to return it because of one flaw I could not live with: Audio / video out of sync intermittently when watching DVDs and Cable TV broadcasts. I am not making this up... Samsung tech says this problem should be fixed on the HLP series. C# |

New member Username: Tommy01835Post Number: 1 Registered: 02-2004 | does anyone know if the new sammys are digital cable ready? if so, will i need a hi-def box? |
New member Username: Tommy01835Post Number: 2 Registered: 02-2004 | i just read from one of the links above and it looks like there will be a digital tuner availible later in the year. but there is a premium cost. what do you think that will be? will it be worth the wait? |
Bronze Member Username: Larry_dPost Number: 23 Registered: 12-2003 | I MYSELF don't think that an integrated tuner is something to consider(I emphasize MYSELF because this is only my opinion). I use Comcast which provides me an HDTV signal for an extra $5 a month. I get ESPN, INHD1, INHD2, HBO, Showtime, ABC, CBS, and PBS in HDTV. Granted I don't get NBC, UPN, or WB, but I currently get most of what is now available right now in HDTV(they're supposed to be adding more in the future at no extra cost). Most HT consumers want or have an external HDTV set-top box such as DirectTV, Dish Network, Comcast, or any other cable provider to recieve premium channels(HBO, SHO, CIN, TMC, etc.). The only reason they need a "separate"(i.e. an integrated HDTV tuner) HDTV reciever is to get the OTA channels they don't get through their cable provider. Now I'm getting to the nitty-gritty. By 2006, ALL broadcasts will be in HDTV(to my understanding). So if you calculate the money you would spend on monthly fees(average $5-$10 a month for an HDTV signal through your cable provider) compared to the extra $200-$600 you would pay for an HDTV integrated tuner in the new TVs right now, it seems like a waste to pay extra for the integrated tuner(unless you REALLY want the extra OTA HDTV channels you don't get through your cable provider). Yeah, you'll get the extra OTA channels(NBC and UPN for me), but the $120 I would spend on my Comcast feed until 2006 when all channels are HDTV is cheaper than the extra $200-$600 I would spend for the extra integrated tuner that I won't use because I use Comcast. Again, this is only my opinion. Please feel free to flame me or do what you will. I'm sure I might also infuriate a couple TV makers as well. |
Y2J Unregistered guest | So which Samsung TV is going to be better? The one using the HD3 or the HD2+ chip? 1500:1 contrast ratio or the 2500(3000:1 <- What Samsung states in their press release) contrast ratio? One tv has a higher contrast ratio but uses an older but revised chip the other uses a new chip with more features but has less of a contrast, so which on is better? |
Bronze Member Username: Larry_dPost Number: 27 Registered: 12-2003 | The HD2+ chip is actually better than the HD3 chip. The numbers are just to signify which generation the chip is...supposedly. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=d21159a8ab5a72af7c2355c7fcf93c5f &threadid=364191 |

New member Username: Cjut01Post Number: 1 Registered: 02-2004 | I am going to wait for the HLP5674W with the HD2+ chip set. Supposedly they will integrate a 7 (vs 6) segment color wheel but not sure when these units will ship. Hopefully in the Summer. I'd hate to wait longer. They will be shipping a slight upgrade to their existing line (a "W1") with some minor changes but the same HD3 chip, at end Mar/early Apr. I'd be interested to know if anyone else is going to wait and if any retailer starts taking pre-orders for the unit sometime in the spring. As an aside, the posts I've read indicate Toshiba is going to come out with 10 sets all based upon the HD2+ chip later in the year so I think Samsung would try to get theirs out to the market before Toshiba. As for the full 1080 resolution, I'd be interested but it seems like it's just to far out there for me to wait. It will be hard enough waiting for the HD2+ sets to hit the market. |
arungupta Unregistered guest | This DLP TV list has now been updated. It has been expanded to include all the 2003 models as well, including the upgraded Samsung's HLN-1 sets that have just started shipping. You can also download a preliminary brochure for the Samsung HLP line here. http://www.digiupdate.com/105_DLP_RPTV.html |
Unregistered guest | I want to know, what type of DLP chip does the Samsung HLN567W use? I can't locate this info in the manual or the Samsung web site. I'm guessing it is the HD2. Does anyone know where I can get a list of DLP rear Projo TV's indicating the chip they are based on? A list of new Samsung models (Fall 04) based on the HD3 or XHD3 would be great also. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Please do not send any atached files. They will be ignored and deleted. |
Anonymous | The HLN567W uses the HD2 chip. You can see all the new 2004 models and release dates at the following internet address http://www.digiupdate.com/105_DLP_RPTV.html. |
MacGyver Unregistered guest | FYI...I just talked to Samsung USA yesterday. The guy I talked to in the Customer Service area said that the HLP5674s should ship within the next two weeks. BB and CC should be the first to get them. He asked his internal contact he was "pretty sure" they would be coming out with the 7 segment color wheel. |
Anonymous | Regarding shipment of HLP5674, as to whom is receiving first can you tell me who BB and CC is? Thanks |

Shawn C Unregistered guest | I have an opportunity to purchase an HLN437W for $3k plus get a $300 merchandise card from CC. I've been watching these for a while now and they've always hovered around $3500 so I was all set to pull the trigger, but after reading these posts now I'm assuming the big discount is due to the pending release of the new improved models. My question is this: Is this too good a deal to pass up or are the HD2+ and or HD3 chip technology so much better that I should wait a few months and pay the estimated $3500 or $3800 (or more) that Larry D quotes for the HLP4663W or the HLP4674W, respectively? Any insight would be appreciated. Just as some background I am not an all out videophile but will likely use the TV for viewing DVDs (about 1/3 of time), HDTV (mostly sports, 1/3 of time) and standard digital TV signal (1/3 of time). |
MacGyver Unregistered guest | Shawn C, don't know if size matters, but Crutchfield is offerring the HLN567W for $3,999 delivered. That is a great price. I expect that retailers are unloading their current stock at a discount for March Madness and to clear room for new models. Best advice is to pick the technology and model you want and the price point you want then make the purchase and not shop any more. With new technology always coming out, prices will always be dropping. Get what you want and love it. |

nittanycheeseboy Unregistered guest | Shawn C.: Looks like you're asking almost the exact same questions I am, and planning on using your TV in exactly the same way, so I'm hoping someone helps both of us out! (See my 46" Samsung Tantus- HELP!" post). I saw the 3K price and $300 gift card offer you're referring to at a local CC just yesterday. Even though I'm looking at the 46" Tantus (available only at Tweeter), the same thing seems to be happening with it - price dropping rapidly in advance of the new models coming out. Wish I knew whether to act or not... |
Unregistered guest | For what its worth, Amazon.com had the HLN617W on sale for about $3750 + 119 shipping. I was able to have one of the local electronics shops price match that. So ended up picking up this model (brand new in a box) for $3699 + $220 (tax)+ Free delivery. I tagged on a 5-year inhouse (includes bulb) warranty for another $399. No Mail in rebates or no gift cards to deal with I was delivered on Friday (2/27), Comcast HD hookup yesterday (need to do some minor tweaking though) and works great!!! Later |
New member Username: RomatcPost Number: 1 Registered: Mar-04 | IMHO I would wait to buy for the new models (with lastest chip HD3-HD+2) coming out soon. Samsung has dropped prices $500 on DLP models to move inventory for new models coming out sometime in May or June. Check out the new models here! Make the most of your hard earned bucks. http://www.digiupdate.com/Downloads/Samsung_HLP_Brochure_Prelim.pdf |
nittanycheeseboy Unregistered guest | What do you guys think of this...the sales associate I've been talking with at Tweeter (for what it's worth, he seems genuinely knowledgeable and is NOT pushing me at all for a sale right now) is telling me that he thinks all the new HLP Tantus models (at their store they carry only the Tantus models I'm interested in)are going to be priced very significantly higher when they're released - maybe a thousand bucks more than the HLN46 and HLN56 Tantus models they have on the floor now. These two are currently priced at $3,299 and $3,999 where I am, respectively. Makes me want to just go ahead and get one now...I'm really starting to get confused here! |
New member Username: RomatcPost Number: 2 Registered: Mar-04 | nittanycheeseboy, If he wants $3,299 for the HLN46 the they are getinng $299 too much! Go to Samsung's web site and see for yourself. Starting March 1, 2004 they have cut $500 off list prices on all DLP models across the board. Read about the new chip with better contrast ratio. Check it out here. http://www.digiupdate.com/105_DLP_RPTV.html |
nittanycheeseboy Unregistered guest | Roma, Thanks...I knew they had cut the $500, but on the Tantus models, off of what? They don't actually list the original suggested prices here for the two Tantus models. They have the 46" marked in the store as $3,799, but it's pulling up at the $3,299 I mentioned - which would reflect the $500 difference. So I should still be paying less than this right now, you think? Based on what? |
New member Username: RomatcPost Number: 3 Registered: Mar-04 | nittanycheeseboy, Off of list price. It seems to me that prices are dropping every week. DLP Expert Unregistered guest | First a couple of myths: 1080p? HD-DVD standard? Shut up. Totally inaccurate. Go get a job a Tweeter, they're always looking for dimwits. 720p vs. 1080i - No one has available a 1080p set, nor is there any 1080p source yet. 720p is actually better than 1080i. Because there is little room to post why, a link is below. Samsung does plan on releasing an 80" 1080p set, it will have a Faroudja chip that will do the 3:2 pull down. As for HD-DVD - The players will do 720p/1080i and will use a DVI/HDMI connector. If you do not have one of these connections, the Y/Pr/Pb signal will be down converted to 480p. HD-DVD is backward compatible with your current collection and if you have seen the DVD player form Samsung that does 720p/1080i upconversion through a DVI, you'll note the image is quite stunning. Here's the link for interlaced vs. progressive. Read it and learn. The guy at Tweeter or the Good Guys doesn't know jack. http://www.alvyray.com/DigitalTV/default.htm |

Shanny Unregistered guest | Does anyone know if Samsung has plans to use the HD2+ chip in the 61"? The HLP6163W shown in Samsung's preliminary brochure uses the lower cost HD3 chip. |
Lenny Unregistered guest | Shanny - To my knowledge the 6163 as well as the 5663 both use the HD3 chip which is a less expensive version of the HD2+ and not as good. It is designed to facilitate lower priced models. Does anyone know if the NY CES is this weekend or next? Also, does anyone have it on good authority that the 5674 is a 13" deep cabinet, or does that just apply to the 5685, which has a vertical light engine mounted in the pedestal? |
hd42 Unregistered guest | It's foolish to buy a sub-standard tv (anything less than 1080p) that any in-store or online "expert" will try to guide you towards. I've seen the difference between a 720p and 1080p broadcast. There's no comparison. 1080p blows it out of the water. Go read stories about why companies are clinging to the substandard technologies to get an idea of why 1080p and high def dvd haven't hit the market yet. It's ridiculous. However, Intel is going to change this with lcos. |

I had pretty much decided on the HL-P5674W coming out (hopefully) in August. The 6197 apparently will have the new DMD, Gen5 Light Engine and 1080p native resolution. Assuming that the 1080p resolution is a big step up in picture quality, how meaningful will it be in the real world? Will you see a dramatic difference on DVD playback? How about HDTV broadcast? Or will it need to wait for these other media to "catch up" in the next year or two in order to appreciate the leap in technology? TIA |
Anonymous | Does anybody on this board have any input on this article I posted on another web site a while back, please let me know, I would be glad to hear your opinions. (I also had the same Audio/Video problem with my Sammy as stated on a post by C# back on Jan. 29th above.) I have been recently looking to possibly purchase a Sony 50" Grand Wega television to replace my complete displeasure with the Samsung 50" DLP. From the messages above & other website reviews, you can obviously tell there have been both happy and unhappy customers with both televisions. With my former 50" Sammy DLP, I had a very unusal problem that took me about 3 weeks for anybody to even acknowledged may exist. The DLP television had what I would term as a "lag-time" problem. I hooked up my xbox, playstation and gamecube and had the following problem with all of them. Any game you would play that required split-second timing, say any golf game for example where a swing meter is required, would not function correctly at all. Press once to start, again at 100% and again on dead-center to hit a perfect shot, sounds easy right....wrong. With this TV, I would hit the button, but it would take the televsion about .5 to 1 second before it would register and actually stop on the meter. It wasn't just with this game, once I played others, I noticed this lag-time for everything. Play games like Halo or others that do not require very specific timing, you may not really ever notice this issue. Try playing something with a meter that's time sensitive. I went back to the store where I purchased this unit and tried this on the same units there, the issue was exactly the same. Its NOT the games, but the televsion. Everything works fine on other analog tv's, etc. My question to any of you out there, try a game like this and let me know, I would like to see if this is an isolated problem or something that others may have as well. I appreciate all the comments on both the Sony and Samsung, but right now I'm just going to hold off on any other purchase. Both look great as televsions, but it sounds like each could have specific problems. After over a month of headaches and learning more about large screen televisions than I really wanted to, my advice to anyone would be to really ask questions and try your equipment on the specific tv you want to buy. If the store really wants your business, they won't mind, that's what I have been doing lately. Good luck to all. I hope to hear from any of you on my former issue above. Thanks. |

Unregistered guest | Been looking for any info. on when the HLP5674w is going to be released. Spoke to someone at Tweeter and he stated that the HLP5663w is coming in early July and probably get the 5674w in Aug. although he was not at all sure about the 5674w. It seems crazy to opt for the 5663w given that it still has the HD3 chip with the 1500:1 contrast ratio compared to the HD2+ chip is in the 5674w with a 3000:1 contrast ratio--price difference expected to be $500. Any thoughts or new info? |
Chris_in_CA Unregistered guest | Videogame screen lag?? Anyone else have thoughts/comments on videogame performance? Anyone currently playing games on a DLP set? I'm looking to pick up one of the new Samsung DLP sets and use it exclusively for DVDs and PS2/Xbox. I'd be really disappointed if game we're less than spectacular because of a screen-update lag issue. Anyone? |
Irene Unregistered guest | There is a thread over 100 pages long at avsforums about the audio/video sync problem on the Samsung DLPs that I have gone through, and this is what I have found out. The problem is variable and only partially dependent on source--is known by Samsung, and there is no cure or fix or tweaking with settings that will help. And BTW, it's not only a Samsung problem, but a DLP problem in general--the DLP processing takes time, which causes the video delays. If it doesn't bother you, fine, but many have returned theirs because they couldn't tolerate it. Samsung claims that they have addressed this issue in their brand new 2004 models just coming out this week, but no one really knows yet--Don't let any salesman convince you otherwise. There is just no 'perfect' HDTV out there! :-( Irene |
bugger Unregistered guest | Did you see that Gateway has lowerd the price of there 56" DLP to 2499. Is this a good set? |
Chris_in_CA Unregistered guest | Irene -- do you know which of their new sets are being released this week? I'm interested in one of the next gen Tantus sets. I called my local Circuit City and they said that they had some new units in their system but not in the actual stores. When I asked for specifics they have the new upgrades to last years model -- but not the NEW new 'captain kirk' or Tantus tabletop sets with the next generation chipset.. Do you know more? |
Mike12345 Unregistered guest | I just came back from Best Buy in Anaheim Hills area and the sale guy said BB has 2 new 50" HLP model in stock. If you're looking for the 50" HLP series, check them out and give feedback. I hope this will help people who are waiting for the HLP series. I also checked out BB website but they do not not have it yet. Maybe just call the local store to check. |
Anonymous | All - I am in a quandry trying to decide on the Samsung sets based on the HD2+ chipset or waiting till this fall for the xHD3 based systems. Even so, I checked out the new systems that have already been released based on HD3 chips and the picture is much improved over the older HLN series based on the HD2 chipset (Side by Side comparison) Because of this I imagine the HLP series with the HD2+ and a contrast ratio of 3,000:1 will be even better...Decisions Decisions |
Will Unregistered guest | I just saw the 5063 model next to 5065 at BestBuy and 5063(1500:1) looks much better than 5065(1000:1). I can't imagine the picture quality of HD2+ chipset (3000:1). By the way, I am waiting for HLP5685. |
New member Username: Chris_in_sjPost Number: 1 Registered: Jun-04 | Will, where did you see the 5063 model?? |
New member Username: Jim_mcmurrayPost Number: 1 Registered: Jun-04 | The new Samsung Model # is HLP5685W and can be seen at onecall.com |

Anonymous | I just saw the new HLP5674W here: http://www.lgdsuperstore.com/hlp5674w.html The price is only $100 below MSRP. |
Cappy Unregistered guest | Hey, Great info from all ... I'm def. going to wait till the end of the year and get the HL-P6197W. Anyone have any info on the Samsung wireless Home Theater system...also looks like new update coming out end of this year ... |
New member Username: GetclayPost Number: 10 Registered: Jun-04 | There is also another forum on this board to look at, "New 2004 Samsung DLP TV's" concerning the new DLPs by Samsung. Check it out also. Everybody, If you did not buy from Tweeter (if in your area), then you are not well informed. They are exchanging my two 61" DLPs, HLN617W1, for the new HLP6163W, at no extra charge. I also have had the audi/sync problem with HLN, been trying to work it out with Samsung, but only Tweeter has taken care of me. Tweeter has a 60 day price match, no restocking fee, and a 60 day defective exchange. Not only that, they will upgrade you for 4 months without extra charges (just the price difference). Also, I bought so much from them, that they beat all internet prices, and I pay minimum on warranties ($250 for 5 years on each 61" DLP). Build a strong relationship with your Tweeter rep (or other local rep), like Chris at Tweeter in Encinitas, CA at 760-634-1112. He will hook you up. Tell him that Clay sent you, and he will give you the best price in town. I trust him as an AV expert and salesman, which is rare for me. Now, the new HLP has fixed the audio/sync problems, and it is a 3rd gen chip that will make major headlines soon. I have not given up on this great technology. I am also an IT Manager for 15 years now, and this is my hobby. I saw both sets, HLN and HLP, side by side, and there are significant differences, but the HLN is still a great set (have one upstairs, 50"). Bought a 61" for downstairs and one for Mom. Thank God for some good companies out there likes Tweeter. Good luck if you buy this stuff on the net, STAY AWAY FROM OUT OF STATE DEALERS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! NEVER BUY WITHOUT A 5 YEAR WARRANTY FROM A LOCAL DEALER! Will try to assist in any way that I can. Take care. Clay |
Anonymous | Fry's Electronic in Fountain Valley, CA has the HLP-5063W on display. I'm waiting for my HLP-4663W model. Anyone seeing the HLP4663W model on display yet? Thanks. |
clcooper1910 Unregistered guest | Does anyone know anything about the "power buy" through AVS and TVAuthority? The prices on the first run of HLP's look amazing, but it's almost too good to be true. Any knowledge about the company or the catch would be greatly appreciated. Also, has anyone heard of a release date for the 5685? Curt |
cam Unregistered guest | I'm trying to find out if the new samsung HLP series still has the computer VGA 1280x720 inputs ... I can't see see it mentioned anywhere ... all the models from the old series had it (the HLNs) ...anybody knows? |
New member Username: Gfunk808Post Number: 7 Registered: Mar-04 | i was told the 4663 won't have vga input, but the 4673 will (source: a samsungusa cust service rep) |
Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 36 Registered: May-04 | Clay, why shouldn't you get a 5 year warrenty fro a local dealer? |
Anonymous | just seen the 4663 at Best Buy in Hawthorne CA...VERY NICE |
rst Unregistered guest | I have a HLN437W and saw a HLP5063W next to a HLN467W at Ultimate Electronics in Roseville, MN. You cannot see the pixels on the HLP but I did not think it was a big improvement over the HLP contrast wise, both are great. I will still get a HLP4663W when available. |
Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 37 Registered: May-04 | So does the new DLP tvs have audio sync problems? |
Disciple Unregistered guest | Do the HLN...W1 series have the audio/video sync problem? I heard these came later with some kinda improved circuit board and a different remote. |
Hugh Unregistered guest | Disciple,my HLN...W1 DID have audio/video sync problems. That was 75% of the reason I returned it. My new 50" HLP is on the way and those sync issues are supposed to be fixed. |
Stuck Unregistered guest | Has anyone actually seen a HLP4663W? Circuit City can "special order" one with no available delivery date. Samsung website doesn't list any specs. Best Buy has a 61 and a 50 in the back but won't bring them out until they sell the HLNs. I want a 46". Any help. Stuck in L.A. (that's Lower Alabama) |
New member Username: Gfunk808Post Number: 8 Registered: Mar-04 | there's a 4663 in my living room right now. delivered from best buy yesterday in san fran. had them match the 'sale' price offered by circuit city on their 'special orders'. they might not have them in the stores, but should be in the warehouses by now. can't really comment on the tv yet because i haven't seen of it to make an assessment, plus i never experienced the older HLN models to compare. |
New member Username: Gfunk808Post Number: 9 Registered: Mar-04 | p.s. - for those looking for tv stands for the 4663, it must be 44"x14" |
Dennis J. Unregistered guest | Just got my Samsung HLP5063 yesterday. Well worth the wait and bucks! Looked at alot of TVs and this one is the best. Picture during fast moving action scenes almost gives you motion sickness! Can't wait for football season. Got it from Best Buy @ $3299.00 |
aconcagua Unregistered guest | Does anyone know if the Samsung HLP5674W will have a VGA input? http://www.lgdsuperstore.com/hlp5674w.html doesnt seem to indicate thanks |
aconcagua Unregistered guest | Does anyone know when the Samsung HLP5674 will hit bestbuy or circuit city? |
New member Username: Chris_in_sjPost Number: 2 Registered: Jun-04 | I saw the Gen3 HLP 46 and 50 at Magnolia Hi-Fi here in San Jose, CA. They looked really nice. Looking at a very clean, analog non-HD television signal, the 50-inch was a bit washed out and not as vibrant as the 46. The sales guy spent a good 15 minutes playing with the settings to try and get the quality closer to the 46 to no avail. Then he cut over to a HD broadcast image and the 50inch looked spot on and the 46 was *too* vibrant. Those independantly set input controls will limit those kinds of problems. There were 3-4 people looking at the sets and we all aggreed on the image quality variance. That being said -- we also all agreed that the image quality was top notch on BOTH sets -- and that if if you didn't see them next to one another we'd thing both pictures were very good. I'm waiting for the next gen Tantus 46 which is apparently now delayed until November (according to the Magnolia guy). |
Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 42 Registered: May-04 | What I really like about these DLP tvs is that I can still use the same space that my 32" regular tv has for this monster of a tv that is only about 15" deep. I can't believe how thin these DLP tvs really are. I guess it would be nice to have a plasma to hang on the wall, but a 50" DLP vs a 50" plasma are similar in looks but a huge different in price. Dennis J a couple posts above said he got a 50" for $3299 and that isn't too bad for a tv. I don't think I'd spend over $3500 or $4000 for a tv, not worth it cause it could become outdated. |
Disciple Unregistered guest | Thanks Hugh, I guess I'll stay away from those frickin' HLN's then...bummer. I wanted to get one on clearance so I wouldn't have to spend so much cash. I hate spending that much money on something that will suck compared to what they will have in 2 or 3 years. Only because I don't have money to burn 'cause if I did then hey, every year I'd get the new model. Also, what does everyone think about the grainy picture issue with a regular digital cable or dish signal. Since most channels aren't HD then you have to deal with a sucky picture when watching regular tv. I think that part sucks. I'm not slammin' the Sammy for this 'cause I think all big screens look like this. |
Disturbed Unregistered guest | Chris, this is very disturbing that the Tantus 46 (HLP4674W) is postponed until November. Was the Magnolia rep pretty sure of this? I've been tracking this particular model for months now. I moved into a new home in April and sold my Sony 57" because it didn't fit into my new entertainment center very well. The Tantus 46 will fit perfectly and have the performance I want, 3000:1 contrast ratio, comparable to Plasma at half the cost. I MISS MY HD. Someone please tell me the release date for this model is still August! |
Unregistered guest | everyone seems to be looking for the **63 or ** 74 sammys comming this fall. WHY ARN'T YOU LOOKING AT THE NEWEST COMMING OUT NOW THE 5085 OR 5685?????? |
