If you live in part of world were you can catch DTV or Dish, get a sub, bring as many people on as you can, they each get 1 or 2 hd dvr, better if they only need 1, that way you get more bang for buck.

In my case it works out I get my tv for free and have aprox 50 bucks a month extra to play with for incidentals

In my case in Canada we had to buy each unit from retailer because only have artificial US address, well not really artificial just that we do not live at address, nor do we know the folks that do

Well are a couple ways, involves a fake US address, you have to buy equipment, has to be purchased from retailer that will ship to Canada, they have to be brand new receivers, never used never activated with sealed card.

Other loud mouths will come by and tell you can activate used "owned equipment" there is some truth to that, but not possible from Canada if you are starting your own account.

I did it hard way

For sure easiest way is if you know someone who has a DTV or Dish account in USA then you ask them to get you a box and you help them pay their bill.

But if you are going to open up own account as I did, a bit more difficult. Can be done, but activation little harder these days with units purchased from retailers, when you call to activate a retailer unit in 2012, you are put on to a 2nd person for more scrutiny, they claim it's for your own security.

They may ask for Social Security number, but you say I am uncomfortable with that, the option may be a 200 dollar security deposit

You have to be ready with a legit US address, one you will need to research does not already have DTV, OTHERWISE their system will show that

You need to have a magic jack to place the call to DTV to activate receiver

You will have to tell them you hooked dish up self so that they will not send a man out

You need to immediately go to your online dtv account and select paperless billing

A Canadian Visa works for me, they have not noticed mine is Canadian in over 3 years

The main thing is to just get one receiver to see if you can set up account before you get anymore

You can find a retailer on ebay US, they will all state that they do NOT ship outside of USA but you need to search for fair price and then send private question asking them if they will ship to Canada, it will state clearly that they do NOT, but eventually you will find a couple that will

Thats about it, once you have established account then it's a little safer and easier, once you have one going, then you can add more.

Folks will tell you that you can add a receiver via online account, but that's only if you buy from them at DTV, you cant do that because they will only ship to the address you are supposedly living at in US

So you have to purchase all receivers on ebay, once you find a guy that will sell you, then you just keep getting one from him. I had a guy that was good, but then one day decided to wrip us off, got money back 4 months later via credit card, was afraid he might have called DTV for revenge but did not

CANT NOT ACTIVATE ON LINE,RECEIVERS purchased from retailers...They require you phone each time

Thanks for your elaborate message. US address is not an issue for me. But I got the idea from you.

Yes It was long, but I was preparing for the usual suspects to cry BS, so I tried to cover everything, probably am missing something...

You need more than just the address in US, they want to know what County etc you are in, I made sure my US Magic Jack number had the same first three numbers as a landline phone in the area, for sure same area code, goes without saying, but also the next 3 numbers

See ya in Church
