Emerson DVD player subtitle problem

Zeb McKinney | I have an Emerson EWD7002. Every so often, subtitles/captions will appear on screen while playing a movie even though I have them turned off in the player's setup menu. I tried turning them off using the disc's menu also but it still happens. My television isn't closed caption capable so I know it isn't the problem. Has anyone else had a similar problem with this model and/or know how to fix this? |

stuart marsh Unregistered guest | Update for emerson dvd/tv.......no reply from Funai or emerson...however I've discovered that if you press the "gui" button and go accross and highlight the (a) marker for the subtitles and arrow down it will then change to off and viola, subtitles are now off. You will need to do this everytime you go back to review the dvd, but at least it works... |

Lee Sola Unregistered guest | I'm having a problem with my Emerson DVD/CD player EWD7002. The audio synch drifts badly. I first noticed that when I'm showing subtitles the audio is always out of synch. A few months later, the audio seems to drift out of synch gradually when not using subtitles. If I stop and start again, it fixes itself, but very soon drifts again. I've been wondering if it's the DVD player or bad DVD's. Anyone know if this is a common flaw with this machine? |

Unregistered guest | I have the same problem with an emerson dvd/vcr combo. It is totally pathetic. At first I thought that it was too hot, but I've had it start drifting two minutes after I start a DVD. We need to try and get a recall on this piece of crap, and stop everyone else from buying one!!!! |

Unregistered guest | My DVD player pauses for like a split second every so often. What causes the problem and how can I fix it. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I have my DVD on top of my VCR which sits on top of my TV. Thanks in advance for your assistance. |

Unregistered guest | I have an Emerson DVD EWD7002. I just got this thing for Christmas!! I'm very unhappy. The subtitles pop up out of nowhere. The audio gets out of sync OFTEN. (Pause and Play usually gets it back on track but that's annoying after a while.) Sometimes it will play audio CD's, other times it won't. Now...IT WON'T DO ANYTHING AT ALL. Every disc that I put in it gets the same message "disc error". When I turn the power on, it tries to load without a disc in it at all! |

Every time I turn the power on it shuts down every few seconds and the cst-in keeps blinking and shutting it down any ideas on how to fix it. I tried turning it on and unplugging it. I've tried to find a hotline or website to contact emerson...but i've haven't been successful. I totally agree that this thing is a piece of crap...and should be recalled. If there is anyone who can tell me how to launch a complaint I would really appreciate it. |

Unregistered guest | I have and emerson DVD/VCR combo. I've only had one problem with the DVD half and it only happened once however I can't get it to record on the VCR half. I put a tape in and it starts playing right away. I push stop and it ejects it right away then shuts off. Does anyone know how to help me with this problem or maybe even be able to tell me what I'm doing wrong? I would really appreciate it. |

Unregistered guest | I just bought a emerson dvd/vcr combo. I cannot get it to record a cd from vcr. I set the situp menu to dubbing and tried to follow directions. I just get a disc error but i am using the right cd. After reading some of the complaints here I am really considering returning the product while i can. Can anyone tell me which brand would be a good one to buy and easy to use. Thanks |

Anonymous | Just got a ewd2004 for christmas and the *&^% thing hesitates, and flat out stops while playing dvd's. After reading this I'm returning it. someone suggested it's a heating problem which makes sense since it seems to do it after playing awhile. |

I have a friend who works on electronics and the problem isn't the brands-it's the combination of putting a dvd and vcr in one unit. They tend to overheat very rapidly and blow out. BUY THEM SEPERATELY!! This will save you time and money. Good luck trying to find a new VCR since they're phasing these out altogether. Hope you kept on to your old ones. |

transistoradio Unregistered guest | emerson has a firmware problem,I saw this posted on another h.t. forum . there was a hack posted also explaining how to take care of some of the playability issues. you might find this on a "emerson dvd hack" search . good luck! next time pay alittle more money it's worth it. |

Big G Unregistered guest | My wife bought the EWD 2004 DVD / VCR combo a couple of weeks ago. WHAT A DEAL!! (right) Apparently someone else bought it first and found out that the remote and instruction booklet is worth more than the player. Because neither one was in the box! After several attempts at hooking it up, all it did was mess up my regular TV reception. My Thanks to haryacles and the web site he provided. I'll try this one and hope for a response! All of my searches have come up empty. Think maybe they don't want to be contacted? We should all learn a leason from this, I guess. There is a difference between a bargin and cheap. They took my name and address and said UPS would pick it up by the end of the week. We've had this dvd player 7002 for almost 3 years and they are going to fix it for free. They were very polite on the phone. |

Unregistered guest | I got an emerson dvd/vhs player last christmas. all of a sudden, it wouldn't read my discs, a few days later, it worked and now it doesn't work at all. i tried cleaning the lens, that didnt help. it tries to load disks when there isn't even a disk in it or when i have it set on vhs mode. it's so annoying!!! but since i have my stereo, dvd player and tv hooked up together so i can hear every thing through my stereo speakers as well, i have to leave the dvd tray open so i dont have to get annoyed but the stupid thing trying to load. i HATE emerson! |

storm Unregistered guest | I _just_ within the last hour bought a new Emerson DVD player as well as 3 new DVD's to replace an old Emerson I had. (which after about 1 year died.) I got it home, hooked it up, opened up a new DVD, stuck it in the machine, and waited... It made some funky clicky noises... sat for a few seconds, then I got a "disk error" notice which informed me I had to eject due to a bad disc. Figuring, okay, it's happened before... perhaps I bought a faulty disk.. I eject it and have a look. Sure enough... from the center to about half way out, there are the scratch markings that look as though someone ran a saw accross the DVD. So... I decide I'll shrug it off... grab new DVD number 2. This time, I check out the disk.. make sure it's not damaged. It's shiney and new. I put it in... the machine makes a funny clicky noise again... still again for a few seconds... and _again_ I get the error message. Now... I'm getting a bit annoyed at this point... I take it out and turn it over to find _IDENTICLE_ scratch markings _EXACTLY_ the same pattern - i mean MIRROR image of the first disc I had put in... Now... I'm pretty pissed... so, I call the 800 number and after about 10 minutes of menus and terrible music, I get a human in the customer 'support' department. She says "Well, I'd exchange it." (Did I call to get the obvious answer?) I say... well, frankly, I don't want another of your machines... it just ate 2 brand new DVD's! What exactly do I do about that? Don't you reimburse people for damage that _your_ machines cause? And she very curtly replied "There's nothin' I can do" and hung up the phone. Now.. I may not be so incredibly ripe if she had been a bit more 'supportive' seeing as how I am a customer... and she works in the 'customer support' department... but now I feel obligated to raise some awareness. I can deal with it happening and being put out a hundred bucks.. not very happy about it, but i'll get over it... what I am not willing to do is sit around silent allowing them to continue to sell and profit from ... well.. a crappy product. I wanna get loud and heard and make them understand that without the support of their customers... they don't have a business. Danny Mac Unregistered guest | I've had a Emerson EWR20V4 since the New Year's 05. I recorded about 60 dvds transferred from my old 80's and 90's collection of VHS tapes. I getting scare that in about 8 months this thing is going to take a dump. By then, maybe my 350+ VHS tapes will be done. Thanks for the comments so far mine is working good I usually run it 12 hours a day transferring and have had some problems with skipping near the end of the DVD. I bought about 200 4X TDK from Target and got a good deal and so far they seem to be OK, make sure you get 4X only one's that will work. I did go cheap and have 1 for the bedroom and 1 for the living room. Good thing I only need 1 remote. Our rival in Jr. High School was Emerson hoping it doesn't return  |

J. Thorpe Unregistered guest | I have the Emerson EWR20V4. When off, I notice that the fan / or motor inside runs at all hours of the night and day. Off and on and off and on.... The only way to get it to stop is to unplug the thing. This busy fan would seem to indicate that the machine will break down sooner than should be expected. Many people on this forum seem to be having that problem. Such a fan would also seem to indicate planned failure or poor engineering. I cannot tell which... |
