Transferring files to external HDD/Macbook from LG RH398H

Would like to save the movies out to my external HDD/Macbook, does this transferring lower down the quality of the movie? How can i connect them? Would appreciate if anyone can help. Have tried to burn the movie out in DVD+R, but the quality drops from 1080i to 720*5....
