I just got a pansat 2500a from a friend of mine for free i have out of the loop for the last year...so my question is this: are the pansat 2500a boxes still working for watching dish network ? if not what would be the best plan of action for me?
It is good either as a door stop or you can connect it to a dish aimed at any satellite, then you can use it as an accurate time piece. Those are the only two uses.
You can buy either buy a nanosat or I-link or X-factor for anywhere around $125 to $150 and if you have broadband internet connection, connect it to the router, you get quite a few channels on their public server.
If you need additional channels you can get private servers which will cost you anywhere from around $3 per month to around $20 per month

The answer has been given clearly. NO. The best plan as suggested above by Subash is: Buy a "nanosat or I-link or X-factor for anywhere around $125 to $150 " and connect to your Broadband router. Also look at a cheap IKS solution such as NFPS on a private server. It will cost you $120 to $300 for a receiver and about $3 for the service. In either case you WILL need a continuously on good quality Broadband connection.

KO: Do not part quote the question. The question has to be read in its context. The context is/was: for watching dish network ? if not what would be the best plan of action for me?
If you people will continue to misquote misinterpret and go on a backslapping spree you do not deserve to be on this or any forum. I told you to shut up when you dont understand the question fully and properly and in particular stop harassing established good helpers.

The project underway is to eliminate all QPSK modulated receivers from service, as the QPSK uplink signals will be turned off soon (leaving only 8PSK).
