Diamond Member Username: NydasPost Number: 20837 Registered: Jun-06 | India vs Sri Lanka (Ind vs SL) ICC World Cup Final Bowler Injuries Cause Concern By Rinaya Jena - Thursday, March 31st, 2011 As the day nears for the World Cup 2011 Final match on Saturday at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium, both the teams are in a critical situation with the injury of the bowlers acting as a drawback. After the scintillating performance at Mohali during the semi-final match against Pakistan, Ashish Nehra is now out of the World Cup. The pacer's right hand middle finger got injured critically thus preventing him from playing in the finals on April 2. The injury happened as he was fielding during the match on 30th against Pakistan. Sri Lankan team too is worried with 2 of their bowlers suffering from injury. Veteran player Muttiah Muralitharan who will be bowling in his last international match is also suffering from multiple injuries. The spinner missed his practise on Thursday too. The list of injuries for the Lankan bowler includes problems with his knee and groin, side strain as well as hamstring injury. But if coach Trevor Bayliss is to be believed the veteran spinner who will turn 39 soon, will be playing in the finals in Wankhede. Also Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews may get opted out of the finals due to his thigh injury. The bowler sustained a minor injury while fielding during the semi-final match against New Zealand. Mathews was seen quite in pain and had opted for a runner when his turn had come to bat. Sri Lanka has had no option but to call in other bowlers to make up for the injured ones. Chaminda Vaas and Suraj Randiv will be joining the Sri Lankan team as they meet India in the World Cup finals on Saturday. |

Silver Member Username: Lubfr01Post Number: 225 Registered: Sep-07 | Believe me general public of Pakistan has the same opinion as that of Afridi. It is media, no matter which country it belongs to, who always want to put a spin on the news to make it masla dar. Prime example is when Indian team resumed playing cricket with Pak and visited Pakistan, back when Musharif was in power. Ask Indian team players what kind of treatment they got when they were on Pak tour. All the people were happy and they greeted Inidan team. Whereever they went they were welcomed. I saw some store owners did not charge anything for any goods purchased by the Inidan team members, they replied that these are our guests and we will not charge them. I wish those days come back when both teams visit each other's countries. Now someone (ABC...) will say who did the wrong to halt that continuation. I would say not by Pakistani public, whoever did I am for a trial with stiff punishment, no matter whoever is responsible for the wrong act. |

GO ....Srilanka |
Silver Member Username: KrishnPost Number: 591 Registered: Sep-06 | Tight bowling early wicket Sada you very well know that the actions of Pak government does not match their words with what they do, many excuses and rationalizations like government cannot admit they have no control of ISI etc. When bad guys based in Afganistan attacked killed innocent citizens, they were attacked in their bases. Has the same thing happened for the bases of Mumbai attack in Pakistan- no? then why complain Well this is not a forum for political discussion, like the sign at Mohali said we have two common religion cricket and cinema why fight? Here the third religion of satellite |
Silver Member Username: JituPost Number: 360 Registered: Jan-08 | sada read this c/p Read full so you know where pak stand after all this years and think why it happened is it people ,govt,or army who have done it where pak stands today? Consider how the past five years have turned out for India and Sri Lanka. India has survived the worst of the global business slowdown and continued to grow robustly. Government policies and a polity that is essentially non-reformist are still holding it back, but the direction is unmistakable. Indian business has grown rapidly and expanded its geographical footprint. If he looked around and sent his scouts to visit the air-conditioned boxes in the Mohali stadium, Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would have got a sense of the new India. Some of the world's richest men, wealth-creators and job-creators of renown, were packed into those boxes, cheering their team. So were movie stars and cultural icons who have built India's soft power reserves. Chandigarh airport was overburdened with requests from private planes and corporate jets. |

Virendar got an edge, that's why he appealed. Inspite of toss cheating and Aleem Dar's cheating hope India pulls off a win |

Silver Member Username: KrishnPost Number: 596 Registered: Sep-06 | Sada: Allem Dar gave benefit of doubt slight edge by sameerveera at 31.3 overs for caught behind, Ok can say benefit of doubt goes to batsman. However benefit of doubt went to bowler when Shewag batted. Now Gautam moved out of way for caught and bowled for Kohli - even Gavaskar is saying he should have moved in the way, could not have been given out for obstruction of field. Hope they make it with too much Dharma |
Gold Member Username: Saqeeb9000Post Number: 7936 Registered: Oct-07 | ok .. subash i have to see the replay to see what exactly happend with catch out .. but shewage was clear lbw...there was no doubt .. yes i can't understand lol Gautum should have moved the other way lol..he had every right right to do what ever...he let the catch happen ... may be he doesn't like kohli |
Silver Member Username: KrishnPost Number: 597 Registered: Sep-06 | Jitu - please keep discussion civil, just like Afridi has done |
Silver Member Username: KrishnPost Number: 598 Registered: Sep-06 | Sada - Shewag's case no doubt ball would have hit stumps, the question is did he get a faint edge, I don't think he is stupid, since if he makes unnecessary referral he will be in trouble. The ball was way close to the bat as well, very faint snicks dont have deviations |
Gold Member Username: Saqeeb9000Post Number: 7937 Registered: Oct-07 | JIttu is kid so kids' talk like that way lol..he will get back to me anyways india is crusing nicely .. if they keep wickets its piece of cake .. if they start loosing one or two wickets... then game can change... the good thing about indian inning is they are rotating the strike....keep getting signals ..which are very crucial in any game... this cause less pressure on other batsman and it avoids un necsessary risks.. |

Silver Member Username: KrishnPost Number: 601 Registered: Sep-06 | It is strange that the match referee should even bother to see the coin if he has not heard what is called, he not only saw it and announced it is as tails as well. Even if it is true that he had not heard it, he should not have seen it and announced what it was, since as per probability theory chances of getting two tails in succession is 0.25%, so it gave Sangakkara, 0.75% chance of winning the toss by calling heads instead of 0.50%. However they should make audio enhancements indicate that Sangakkara had called heads, he should face at least a few years ban and in any case Crowe should never be an umpire again anywhere. As far as 2007 world cup is concerned Steve Bucknoor has been thrown out after the 2008 Sydney test against India in which he was proved to be a cheat. It is unfortunate that Aleem Dar did not know the rules in 2007 http://www.deccanherald.com/content/150851/toss-flew-over-crowes-head.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Match referee goes for a re-toss after failing to hear Sri Lankan skipper's call Toss that flew over Crowe's head Mumbai, April 2 (PTI) For the second time in as many editions, match referee Jeff Crowe was in the news for all the wrong reasons during a World Cup final. In 2007, the Kiwi was the head of the playing control team when Australia and Sri Lanka were forced to go through the farce of playing out the final in darkness because the umpires and the match referee refused to acknowledge the rules. At the Wankhede stadium on Saturday, Crowe had no reason not to hear what Kumar Sangakkara had called at the toss. The former New Zealand skipper's uncertainty over what the call had been when Mahendra Singh Dhoni had tossed the coin the first time led to a re-toss, during which Ravi Shastri informed everyone present that the call had been 'heads'. Heads it eventually was, the second time, as Sangakkara won a crucial toss and opted to bat first. Why exactly a second toss had to be gone through, however, is the big question. At 2.00 pm, half an hour before the scheduled start, the Wankhede was far from filled to capacity, and the noise levels weren't deafening enough for someone standing two feet away not to make out what Sangakkara had said. As the coin came down 'heads', Dhoni was under the impression he had heard 'tails' and told his opposite number, 'We will bat.' Sangakkara insisted he had said 'heads', so both men turned to Crowe to settle the issue. The match referee's presence at the toss is mandatory only to provide authority and clarity in such matters. As luck would have it, Crowe had absolutely no idea what the call had been. With so much uncertainty prevalent, there simply was no option left but to go in for a second toss, an unprecedented move on such a large stage The tournament's host broadcaster insisted that audio-boosts indicated Sangakkara had called 'heads' the first time, but former England captain Michael Vaughan insisted he had heard 'tails'. Whatever be the case, it didn't show Crowe in the best light. Already having attracted flak for the fiasco that the 2007 final ended in, this is certainly not what the New Zealander would have wanted in another title clash On that occasion, technically the match had been completed because Australia had bowled more than 20 overs when darkness enveloped the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown with Sri Lanka in the middle of an impossible run chase. Under the standard playing conditions, Australia had already clinched the title, a fact acknowledged by both captains. But after a protracted discussion, on-field umpires Aleem Dar -- coincidentally, also standing in Saturday's final -- and Steve Bucknor insisted that unless three further overs were completed in near total darkness, the teams would have to return on Sunday's reserve day to complete the match. Australian captain Ricky Ponting and his Lankan counterpart Mahela Jayawardene pointed out to the umpires that the side chasing had already batted 20 overs, so the match was over, but their entreaties fell on deaf ears. The incident left the International Cricket Council red-faced, especially with Crowe hinting not so subtly at a press conference that third umpire Rudi Koertzen was responsible for the mess. Consequently, Crowe, the three aforementioned umpires and fourth umpire Billy Bowden were kept out of the first World T20 in South Africa. It remains to be seen if Crowe's latest indiscretion will attract any censure from cricket's world governing body. |
