been out of it for a long time.. my hubby's birthday coming up and I want to surprise him with a new receiver.. which one is the good one to buy right now??? i mean ilink, xfactor, dreambox, sonicview, etc? or any recommendations will be appreciated!! which one is the safest buy? I mean if there any gossip about some of them going down or so....? THANKS!
Wn, you need to decide how much money you plan to spend. This spoils the surprise, but you'll need to bring him receiver shopping with you so he can hear how they sound.
When my wife got me a receiver for my b'day 2 years ago, she arranged the finances so it looked like I couldn't purchase it right then. Her ploy was to take me to different stores and pick one out so that I knew which one I'd want when it was possible to make the purchase. She went behind me and wrote down the make & model #. A couple days later, she bought it. The next day was my b'day and there it was!
thanks for advise.. what about online tv, any good sites or software?? I have old captiveworks cw-600s premium - would it work with ihub? i also have a box with circle looking menu, that thing lost it's logo and I have no idea what it is now, used it about 4 years ago, possible coolsat... also have 2 dish boxes from about 6-7 years ago... if I could make any of them work with ihub, I could just buy ihub for almost nothing, that would solve the problem of risking spending money on a new box that will stop working in two weeks or sooner... thanks again for your help!
So called "private server' is just a "pay for service" server. When it get's busted they have all your info with a money trail. I'm just waiting for the inevitable, when nfps is busted and all the sheeple's lives will be ruined.
Thats when all their supporters such as Nydas and Sada will disappear leaving you to fend for yourselves.
I have a Limesat. It goes down one day every two weeks (who knows why) but it gets both d1sh and B3v with minimal freezing. I would recommend this receiver for now.
Otherwise, only private IKS service will get you stable tv at this point in time. But I agree that it is risky to give your card number out to private IKS businesses. Not to say that they don't intend to protect their end user, but when they get busted that can all change in the blink of an eye.
Nothing is ever for certain with this stuff so always expect to gamble when you "invest" in a receiver. Bonne chance!

What satellites are you pointed too and what channels do you receive?
Senior Moment: I must explain that when I saw Wn's post, I had forgotten that I left home theater and entered home video. I thought she was talking about getting her husband a home theater receiver, not a satellite receiver. Sorry guys!
wn, I don't think the PM works very well here. Just follow the link I posted earlier in this this thread. Then right click on file and select "save target as".
