In my living room, I have a splitter to a hd box and cable internet. I thought if I added another splitter, I could attach a second tv. However when I do that, the hdbox loses the hd channels. Any idea how to set up a second tv?

Welcome to eCoustics ets!
You must using a special splitter bidirectional(2 ways) like this one:
Hook it on the output of your actual splitter to split the HD box then your other TV.
