I currently own a 53" Sony XBR SDTV. I think I'd like to wait a year or so until connection standards are set and technology matures a bit more before buying an HDTV, BUT I am interested in receiving HDTV broadcasts (still got my old analog antenna on the roof from 25 years ago), and displaying them on my standard set. Can someone recommend a good, reasonably priced set top HDTV tuner that outputs 480i? I'm assuming I'll get at least DVD quality pictures from it, right? I don't need a satellite tuner, just HDTV. Thanks group.

It should look as good as DVD looks on your TV now. Samsung and Zenith sell HDTV-only tuners for under $400. Check Circuit City.
Your roof antenna should work final as well. Be aware, most HDTV channels show upconverted 480i programs during the day so you mat not notice anydifference at all. The real Hi-def stuff shows up during primetime.

Save your money till next year. The prices will come down, the technology will get better, and DVD quality (525i?) isn't much improvement. Save up for HDTV.
