Advertised Arabic are up. Advertised Indian channels are up except for the South Indiian and Gujarati channels. Pakistani channels, particulalry Ary group and Geo are not up yet. Sonicview also has come up to normal on DN, but is still weak on BEV. V-link has not started service yet and i-slinger remains int eh dumps. The original king of IKS - Sonysat remmains the leader. |

New member Username: ChaffPost Number: 10 Registered: Jan-10 | Beginning at 6:16 PM Eastern Time Yesterday evening, we began experiencing a "distributed denial of service" attack aimed at our "EKE" server. The attack used more than 2 Gbps of network bandwidth from several thousand different IP addresses. This is an extremely high amount of traffic, saturating even our network connections. The problem caused make our server to become unreachable (or very slow) from the Internet. We take reliability seriously. Unfortunately, this is by far the largest attack we've seen on our network . We sincerely regret and apologize for the impact this had on our customers We working very hard to fix this issue... thanks |

Bronze Member Username: ChaffPost Number: 11 Registered: Jan-10 | Denial of service attack (resolved) Posted May 17th, 2009 by Robert Mathews in System Status. Beginning at 2:16 AM Pacific time this morning, we began experiencing a "distributed denial of service" attack aimed at our "flexo" Web server. The attack used more than 2 Gbps of network bandwidth from several thousand different IP addresses. This is an extremely high amount of traffic, saturating even our network connections. The problem caused most of our servers to become unreachable (or very slow) from the Internet. We restored service to all servers except the flexo Web server at 2:59 AM (by getting our network providers to block all packets for certain IP addresses). We restored service to the flexo server at 3:29 AM (by getting them to identify and block specific characteristics of the attack). All services are now operating normally, and all delayed incoming mail has been delivered. We take reliability seriously. Unfortunately, this is by far the largest attack we've seen on our network in ten years. We sincerely regret and apologize for the impact this had on our customers. http://blog.tigertech.net/posts/denial-of-service-attack-resolved/ |

Platinum Member Username: NydasPost Number: 17928 Registered: Jun-06 | WIKI "A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of a person or people to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely. Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root nameservers. One common method of attack involves saturating the target (victim) machine with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately. Denial-of-service attacks are considered violations of the IAB's Internet proper use policy, and also violate the acceptable use policies of virtually all Internet Service Providers. They also commonly constitute violations of the laws of individual nations." If DN was indeed doing this, it would be illegal. |
