My 56" DLP started flickering about 2 weeks ago, just once in a while (10 or 15 min intervals), but after 2 weeks, it is a constant flicker - and unwatchable. Then the other day it started to change the overall tint of the entire picture - red tint, yellow tint, blue tint. It does this intermittently every 3 or 4 mins.
I bought this model because of the LED lamp having a longer life-cycle (about 20,000 hrs - I was told) and it currently only has about 3,000 hrs of play time on it. After calling Samsung support, they said that it was out of warranty and gave me the # to a service center. Service guys thinks it could be a lamp or DMD board, looking a $500 bucks to attempt to fix it.
Can anyone shed some light on this situation? Is it a lamp issue, or DMD board, or could it be something else entirely?
And is it worth me just ordering a new DMD board and try to install it myself, or scrap out this TV and move to a LED LCD? I don't want to waste good money on a hopeless project.
