No signal through hdmi to dvi on my sharp z10000 front projector

i have this projector and i can't get any picture through its dvi input using an hdmi adaptor. its hdcp compliant and i'm using a sony s350. it does accept 1080i through my comcast cable box component though. any body knows why?
