Does anyone know if a TV can display an image using progressive scan technology even if the source is a standard television antenna or any other non-progressive scan device? I ask this because I recently purchased an LG 32" widescreen CRT TV (LG LAFINION82W PAL version) which has an indicator on it that claims to be displaying the picture in progressive scan even though I didn't think I had any devices that output in progressive scan. Even if I plug my antenna straight into the TV or connect any device through the standard AV connections it claims to be progressive scan. The TV only has two options progressive scan or 100Hz (progressive scan is the default option). The 100Hz option leaves several coloured lines on top of the screen which are very distracting so I have to use the progressive scan option. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Yes, many HD/ED TVs routinely up convert any of its non-HD input signals to 480P.
