I have a 50" plasma with 720p. Would the HD signal from the HD FTA still look good on a 720p television?

Do you need different LNBs to receive HD?
Can I use the existing 110/119 set up? Or I have to point to different satellites?

Where can I find a list of channels that would be in HD on the HD FTA receiver?

There is a great possibility HD PTA receivers will be first to to become usless

D#N is changing hardware as we speak
To my best estimate 8 months to a year tops
Make sure yor aware of the risk

I have a regular SD receiver
Take signal from RGB to yor 720p TV
Will be reasonably good
Yo won't spend nearly as much
HD receivers total waste of money
And yo'll see nose dive prices because of most recent D#N change of on demand and H*D Tur*bo

I recommend SV 360 elite dual tuner PVR instead for less than $175
Record as much as yo want
Whenever there is a long ECM yo'll always have something to watch

LCD TV get Sharp
But I recommend Panasonic Plasma as #1 quality and price
1080p HDTV is what yo should shop for
Or at least 1080i
720p is at least 5 years outdated

VS-Xtreme doesn't have HD channels
However yo can connect component out (RGB + R/W for audio) to yor HD TV and yo'll see all SD on yor HDTV in great resolution

Amazon.com is best place to compare market prices
But never purchase a large HDTV by mail order
Very high risk of getting sensitive electronics component damaged inernally or externally

HD FTA receivers are waste of money at present time

Satellite 129 is loaded with HD channels. I would recommend that satellite to any HD viewer.

I belive this is much easier to understand and read , regarding available DN channels , including HD channels.

Best site for DISHNET info, channels, transponders and changes etc..

DISH Ready for MPEG-4 Video

c/p of a post by tomcat01.

DISH Net said Monday that it will transmit all standard and high-def programming in the MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding Standard, a move the DBS provider said is a first among video providers.

The move followed other technology efforts by the company, including the delivery of movies in 1080p resolution. Also, DISH said it's still committed to offering up to 150 national HD channels by the end of the year.

The MPEG-4 push will include local TV packages.

In the East, the first wave of all MPEG-4 locals will occur in 21 markets, including Cleveland; Richmond, Va.; Baltimore; Columbia, S.C.; Tampa; Green Bay, Wis.; Greensboro, N.C.; Providence, R.I.; Greenville, S.C., Knoxville, Tenn.; Raleigh, N.C.; Chicago; Detroit; Charlotte, N.C.; Dallas; Nashville, Tenn.; Minneapolis; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; New York; and Hartford, Conn. Additional markets will be announced at a later date, the company said.

That's what I have been saying about HD all along

New system, new hardware, new encryption, new boxes
End of PTA will hit HD first
Watch reduction of prices for HD FTA receivers
End of D#N PTA will soon be a reality

We need back up plans
PTA must live
What's are the alternatives?

IT'S TRUE
I report what I see
I did scan the 2 streams and I spoke about it before anyone else
There have been several battles back and forth between security providers and coders
Yo probably not aware of it cuz majority of friendly users here all they care is turn on Free TV

Coders matched security providers pound for pound
Coders won every single battle

Many of previous battles had both expensive changes and low cost changes
THIS TIME THEY DECIDED TO CHANGE ENTIRE HARDWARE CONCEPT
My real hobby is to scan what's out there and share what I know and see

K T, so how much time will HD FTA have? AFAIK, eastern arc sats require a new dish, when will they swap out existing customers' dishes?

Exact time table is always unknown
I'm sure D#N can't even answer this

But as an educated guess I would say:
- Service will be available for new HD customers only Sep and Oct this year
- Feb/March/April will start upgrading older HD equipement
- May/June/July swaping SD American
- Aug/Sep/Oct swaping International
- November Total black out
- Maybe sooner or maybe until December 2009

Only guessing
Also note:
Older HD models they'll relace 1080i with 1080p Module
Simple hardware swap
They'll still use older HD receivers
Not the older SD receivers
Sd will have to be totally replaced
But they have to offer this at the end after fullfilling all HD customers
