I have a Samsung SP-50L7HX 50" rear projection tv, which has worked correctly for around 2.5 years. The other day, I turned the tv off as usual, and the next morning when the TV was turned on, I got sound but no picture (black screen). There are no flashing lights, and the last thing that I see is the smiley face (great!) before the screen goes black.
I am able to see light in the back of the TV, around the lamp area, and I think that I can hear the fan spinning, but nothing that I do will give me a picture.
The remote control works (sound, standby) - I cannot see if any other buttons work (menu etc.).
I don't know much about the mechanics of these tv's, and do not want to damage the set further.
Do you think that it is worth a repair bill with no warranty, or do I replace the set? Is this a known problem / anyone else had this one?
