VS or SV But I still think they are way over priced for basic HD FTA receivers And if anything happens to PTA they will be practically usless $400 piece of equipment
SV 360 elite dual tuner PVR I hear is a great video quality SD under $170 maybe a better choice at present time
HD is High Fefinition SD is Standard Definition 720p p is progressive scan 60 frames per second 1080i is interlaced 30 frames per second 1080p is progressive scan 60 frames per second
720p MPEG-2 HD is the minimum HD requirement BEV uses 720p MPEG-2 for HD braodcast DN, DTV and Digital cable use 1080i MPEG-4 8PSK broadcast There is no 1080p broadcast by any provider 1080p is for Blu-ray HD DVD media 1080p is an upscale by best HDTV via HDMI optical cable
Only recomended cables for HD: 5 component RCA jacks R/B/G plus R/W Or HDMI ver 1.3
Today's SD broadcast 480i Many receivers upscale to 480p via S-Video or RGB component Composite Y/W/R is not 480p Yor TV must be capable for 480p via component
Most of yesterday's SD are not even 480i I don't know what the F*ck they sell since they don't provide spec sheets
All HD FTA receivers are at least 2 years behind in technology I do see major improvement in SD FTA receivers lately but not HD SD FTA maybe best choice at present time SV 360 elite PVR maybe hotest SD receiver in the market today

See the gemmick is here: * Video Resolution : 480p or 720p, 1080i
Usually Video resolution is 720x480 or 1440x1080 or 1920x1080 I can bet yo my house that receiver is 1080x720 at the most
It decodes signal: Including 480i / 480p / 720p / 1080i -Selectable Output Video Format : 1080i / 720p / 480p / 480i
So they are either stupid can't write specs Let me tell yo they are not stupid In my opinion the consumer is
It's all gemmicks I power any of these crapHD FTA And yo'll see boxes like crazy on yor TV Yo ask and wonder why? Cuz what yo paid for is not worth $400
What yor paying for a device that converts HD broacast to 480p displayor at best 720p Don't get me wrong it's an improvement to the FTA Crap they sell but far away from HD industry standards
For $50 yo can get a device that upscales to 480p, 720p, or 1080i
Mister how can you tell a person what is the best HD receiver to buy? You say VS or SV. have you ever tested these two receivers or any other HD receiver?
I don't get king's "best technical advice". OP is asking HD but he recommend to get a SD instead??? Maybe $400 is overpriced for a HD box, but you will not want to go back to SD once you have HD.
All HD FTA receivers at present time are inferior devices They are at least 2 years behind current video technology standards If yo can't live without HD and think $400 is justified then go get yorself VS, SV or Nfusion
I personally wouldn't pay more than $200 for any of these HD craps Yo believe my honest advice that's fine If Yo don't just do the opposite and yo'll be fine too Whatever makes yo feel good with yor money I'm not trying to sell yo anything
If yo wanna have an open discussion with me about this HD topic yo must be able to interpret the specs otherwise I won't reply to yo I said over and over I tested few devices based on its specs I don't waste time with electronics below today's standards
If they post 1920x1080 then we can talk Even 1080x720 is 5 years ago technology They don't even list 1080x720
I can take 720x480 and upscale it and yo'll think it's true HD That's what these money suckers are doing A good HD should have resolution listed If they don't then they don't want yo to know
Only DN, DTV, Digital Cable understand HD Samsung and Motorola got the best HD electronics
Let's try technical. Yes, you can "upconvert" 480 to somthing better than SD. However, most if not all of the HD channels are shot at 16:9 aspect ratio. If you have a SD box, no converter will be able to convert 4:3 screen to 16:9 content properly. If you keep the 4:3 aspect on your HDTV, part of the TV screen will be wasted.
Yes, 1080x720 is 5 year old technology but TV standard does not move in lightling speed. I don't have a crystal ball, but the 1080i standard will be with broadcast TV for many, many years to come even if new technology comes along that will allow 1080p broadcast.
Yukon I wasn't talking about FTA receivers when I say Samsung and Motorola Read this part again: "Only DN, DTV, Digital Cable understand HD Samsung and Motorola got the best HD electronics" But thanx for reply anyway
"Yes, 1080x720 is 5 year old technology but TV standard does not move in lightling speed. I don't have a crystal ball, but the 1080i standard will be with broadcast TV for many, many years to come even if new technology comes along that will allow 1080p broadcast."
1080x720 is 720p 1920x1080 is 1080i There is no 720i nor 1080p broadcast today 1080p TVs take 1080i signal and upscale it from 30 frames to 60 frames Very cool uscale process
Also very important Today's HDTVs are 1080p remember 1080p is 60 frames/sec 1080i 30 frames/sec If yo buy a TV that's 1080i yo are buying a 2 years ago technology
1080p TVs will not get outdated in terms of resolution for the next 5 years 1080p HDTV is what yo should buy if yor in the market shopping for one Panasonic Plasma should be yor top choice Sharp LCD is next folloed by Samsung Sony TVs are always over priced expensive designs poor electronics components
1080i broadcast is the only true HD broadcast and will stay that way for another 5 to 10 years
The next technology being produced by the Japaneese is Super HD Super HD is expected to be 1880p But yo may never know if consumer may not be interested and can fail
They claim eye can't be better than 1080p I worked 27 hard years in electronics I personally very happy with 720p and 1080i
Bottom line Current sh!tty FTA receivers take 16:9 1080i broadcast convert it to coventional 480 or 720 crappy DAC electronics upscaling to 720 or 1080 Electronics value of $150 And yo poor FTA user pay $380 for something worth $150
Do yorself a favor "DON'T GET DUPED" And relax I don't work for DN, DTV or BEV
If we go by the logic of "Current sh!tty FTA receivers take 16:9 1080i broadcast convert it to coventional 480 or 720 crappy DAC electronics upscaling to 720 or 1080 Electronics value of $150 And yo poor FTA user pay $380 for something worth $150", I guess no one should buy iPod, iPhone, or any other consumer electronics. When is consumer electronics price by their intrinsic values of the components???
Yo can't compare ipod or iphone that holds more than 30 electronics patents to real cheap FTA receivers that's known as PTA
HDFTA receiver manufacturers know very well yo need those HD channels very bad despite the fact that there is only 2 or 3 true HD FTA channels This is an after market product Yo can't compare this to legit electronics product that holds over 30 patents
So they offer less value knowing yo got will to pay My friend the SD receivers are not much different the 16:9 and slight upscale make it look as it worth $400 Where in fact less products deliver similar video quality
No Email Don't wast any more time. Just go back and check some of King Tapeman's posts for a good laugh. He only knows what he reads on the internet. He owns no FTA equipment and don't know how to install them he is a paid customer.
Can I add something? I have a CoolS*t 8000 HD receiver, and am quite happy with it. The picture is awesome on 42" LCD screen, much better than with the Viewsat or Pansat receivers i use in the other rooms.. Just my experience.. don't yell at me.. Only thing is the coders for Cools*t are a little slow sometimes, expecially on Sat or Sunday.
Kingsville, you are right. There is no point in discussing anything techical with someone that insists upconvert 4:3 SD content on a 16:9 HDTV is "not much differnt" than native 1080i.
sonicview 8000hd/1.2 meter dish/invacom quad/cheita switch/sg2100 motor - this is the best setup you can have untill they release the 360hd, with this setup i dont worry about tv going down
