Platinum Member Username: NydasPost Number: 10785 Registered: Jun-06 | If you have light you can restore them. originally posted by Tooter. C/P A great new feature with the Ultra (since the 080404U file), is the ability to be able to load up a "boot" file from a USB stick. (A "boot" file simply means any file that you want the Ultra to load up when you turn it on from the back switch when there is a USB stick inserted). This should (hopefully) enable anybody to circumvent the hassles of having to connect their receiver to their computer with a cable and use a "Loader program" in order to simply load a file into their "frozen" (or otherwise "unresponsive") box. Now it is simple... 1: Insert your USB stick into your computer and "open up" the files folder so that you can look at your various Ultra files on your USB stick. 2: "Right click" on the file that you would like to be loaded onto your Ultra (it can be either a factory file or any other ultra "fix" file), and select Rename from the window that pops up. 3: Rename that file to PFTAUSWR.PGM and make sure that it saves it properly. (You can do this by closing your USB window and then opening it back up to ensure that the new PFTAUSWR.PGM file name is still there). 4: And, as always, before you remove any USB stick from your computer, click on the little Icon on your taskbar (at the lower right of your screen), and select "Safely Remove Hardware" before you remove your USB stick. 5: Insert your USB stick into your Ultra (which is turned off by the back switch). 6: Turn on your Ultra from the back and it will now automatically look for, and load, any file named PFTAUSWR.PGM. (The front display on the receiver will show "uSb", then "InSt", then "End"). When your menu comes back you can confirm which file has now been loaded into the Ultra by using your remote to go to Menu>System Information>Receiver Information and check to see what file name is listed beside the Main S/W entry. It should show the original file name you had changed to PFTAUSWR.PGM on your USB stick! |

Platinum Member Username: LklivesPost Number: 15753 Registered: Jan-06 | LMAO..that post is helpful for ONLY using/teaching someone to use the thumb drive, and has nothing to do with fixing an exact 8888 problem..but I;ll let all the alleged wiseguy experts , explain the real specific fix for that!..and what specifically needs to be done with a few details.... and ANY true FTA hobbyist would have known that and spotted that before my post! |
Gold Member Username: DoreenakadjOntario Canada Post Number: 1646 Registered: Dec-06 | C/P from another sit hope this helps VS 'Boot-Lock' fix.....8 8 8 display -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had this issue with one of my VSU's.. It shows three eights on the display.. (2 bright ones and one faint) ... ' 8 8 8' .. something like that.. Mine wouldn't take any uploads from the PC via Null Cable no matter how many times I tried..(Unlike the '-------' knight rider freeze - this is not the same) . I own two VSU units and was able to fix it by 'cloning'. Do the following...(you will have to find someone with the same VS unit) Someone called this 'Boot-Lock' .. Good name for it! (1) Load factory file 132 on to the working unit and hook it up to the TV. (2) Plug in the nonworking unit and make sure the rear power switch is off. (3) Connect both units with the serial cable. (4) On the working unit go to the 'Receiver Upgrade' menu {Menu (button) - Receiver Information - Receiver Upgrade} (5) Choose 'All Information' and hit ok on the remote (6) Turn the power switch to the nonworking unit on and wait several minutes for it to upload the information to the nonworking unit. Both units will say 'off' and will remain idle for a minute when it finishes. (It appears to upload 3 or 4 times - be patient) {If the nonworking unit reverts back to '8 8 8' repeat step 6} (7) Push exit on the controller and turn both units off. Disconnect the serial cable. (8) The nonworking unit should be functioning normally now. Update both units with the latest bin file via usb flash drive and reprogram satellite info and channels. (or load this info if you have it saved to the memory stick) Trying to 'clone' the latest bin file will not work. The nonworking receiver will go back to showing '8 8 8'. This procedure must be done with the working unit having the factory file 132 loaded. This will fix the issue. I've seen this on the VSU and the HD9000 P.S. When you get the unit running and programmed I suggest you save 'Satellites' and 'Channels' to your USB Flash Drive from the 'Receiver Upgrade' menu. Whenever you have to load a factory file or your info gets erased somehow you can load the info from the 'USB' submenu. (It will save all your settings including favorites) Good Luck. |

Doreen gave ya a legit answer.. and plymouth... for being an "alleged" VS owner , obviously U know nothing about the receiver, if ya think Nalins reply was helpful regarding this specific 888 problem.. and go screw yourself before ya start something with me, ya fricking azzwipe... Plymouth and all U other stupid SOB's ( so many, can't name em all)...instead of being azzwipes and wannabees, try reading and learning instead of posting crap like nalin |

Silver Member Username: DimwittPost Number: 708 Registered: Aug-06 | the question was-- Best place to send bad boxes I don't see where any of U answered that. |
Gold Member Username: DoreenakadjOntario Canada Post Number: 1654 Registered: Dec-06 | two part question I do believe tee asked and I quote "Where is the best place to ship them for repairs or is it best to ebay them for someone else to fix" My answer is The best place is " there is no place like home" other wise you risk getting caught with an altered FTA receiver and take your chances of getting busted! It's better to learn how to fix them yourself rather than trust a total stranger. |
Platinum Member Username: LklivesPost Number: 15760 Registered: Jan-06 | Obviously the orignal poster didn't realize that he can fix it himself with little difficulty...and a lil reading! tooter... would U pay someone to do a very simple task that u are very capable of doing?..or would U just bash someone for telling U to send it out, and NOT suggesting U fix it yourself!! sometimes being helpful, might entail providing some additional RELATIVE info!...unless u have tunnel vision, or been pre-programmed like a robot, NOT to use common sense and logic.. |
