Bronze Member Username: Nanc91Post Number: 25 Registered: Aug-07 | My friend just droped off his viewsat ultra to me, because I am usually pretty good at getting them working again but this time I am having a problem I am using the null modem cable and when I set loader 2 up with the file and try to load it, right after I turn the machine on a number will come in the front display(sometimes it is a 6 , 8 or a 0) and it will not load anything. I have tried the factory file and everything but nothing seems to be working and when the machine is not pluged in to the computer I can't get any lights to come on the front screen? Dose anyone know how I maybe able to solve this problem? |

Gold Member Username: NydasPost Number: 9997 Registered: Jun-06 | nancy: It would be a help to you to understand the following facts. RS232 cables 1. There are two types and ONLY TWO TYPES of 9 pin RS232 cables for connection between receiver and computer. 2.Once you have tried both types there is NO THIRD TYPE. 3. Waiting a few days and trying again is not going to change any of the above facts. 4. If the cable type is not know, it is good to buy a M/F DB9 Null adaptor. This will guarantee to you that with the adaptor not connected you will have one type of cable and with the cable connected in series you will have another type of cable. USB to Serial convertor 1. This is often the culprit when you are forced to use one as many people have to with laptops. 2.USB to serial convertors are notorious for problems and for slowness. 3. Buy only the type with its own installation CD. Do not allow Windows XP to install it. 4. Manually install using CD 5. Select COM1, or COM2, or COM3 or COM 4 port. 6. Use device manager in your computer to check and select the right port. Thousands of people are using these devices and managing quite well, and there is no earthly reason why you should not get a BIN loaded into your receiver if you use the right loader, BIN etc. |
Gold Member Username: PlymouthQuebec city, Quebec Canada Post Number: 1635 Registered: Jan-08 | Nancy if you can try on another computer for load it, maybe its a port problem. Thanks |
Bronze Member Username: Nanc91Post Number: 38 Registered: Aug-07 | ok We have tried 3 computer and here is what we did 1 computer we used the cable that came in the box with the revicer no luck then computer number 2 we tried with a null modem cable ant the usb addaptor still so luck so we then tried on a laptop with tthe cable and the usb addaptor and still no luck...I know it was working until the last bin was loaded he had no channel after he loaded the bin so he factor rest it and loaded the factory bin and then the newest bin and still ho channel and he said it would not let him even scan for channels so he said he tried to reload the factory bin and then le new bin and he said that it would notload any more and that the front screen on the reciver was blank...I told him to bring it to me and I will try and load it but I had no luck either. I don't think it is a cable problem or a com port problem I have loaded a viewsat platium and a extrem and an ariza with the same calbe and same port and I also loaded a pansat using the same part just a straight cable instead if the null modem...I am stumped |

Bronze Member Username: Nanc91Post Number: 43 Registered: Aug-07 | hello again, I was wondering if you know if you can order parts for the viewsat ultras and if so where would you order them from? |
Gold Member Username: PlymouthQuebec city, Quebec Canada Post Number: 1728 Registered: Jan-08 | Nancy Which part you need? |
Silver Member Username: Bill038Post Number: 684 Registered: Sep-06 | This might help: new found info...... How to load any USB file automatically when "booting up" your Ultra -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A great new feature with the Ultra (since the 080404U file), is the ability to be able to load up a "boot" file from a USB stick. (A "boot" file simply means any file that you want the Ultra to load up when you turn it on from the back switch when there is a USB stick inserted). This should (hopefully) enable anybody to circumvent the hassles of having to connect their receiver to their computer with a cable and use a "Loader program" in order to simply load a file into their "frozen" (or otherwise "unresponsive") box. Now it is simple... 1: Insert your USB stick into your computer and "open up" the files folder so that you can look at your various Ultra files on your USB stick. 2: "Right click" on the file that you would like to be loaded onto your Ultra (it can be either a factory file or any other ultra "fix" file), and select Rename from the window that pops up. 3: Rename that file to PFTAUSWR.PGM and make sure that it saves it properly. (You can do this by closing your USB window and then opening it back up to ensure that the new PFTAUSWR.PGM file name is still there). 4: And, as always, before you remove any USB stick from your computer, click on the little Icon on your taskbar (at the lower right of your screen), and select "Safely Remove Hardware" before you remove your USB stick. 5: Insert your USB stick into your Ultra (which is turned off by the back switch). 6: Turn on your Ultra from the back and it will now automatically look for, and load, any file named PFTAUSWR.PGM. (The front display on the receiver will show "uSb", then "InSt", then "End"). When your menu comes back you can confirm which file has now been loaded into the Ultra by using your remote to go to Menu>System Information>Receiver Information and check to see what file name is listed beside the Main S/W entry. It should show the original file name you had changed to PFTAUSWR.PGM on your USB stick! Isn't testing fun? this was not written by me. NOTE:::::: when you finish loading the renamed file, remove that file from usb. if you don't every time you try to load the fix file this renamed file will be seen and loaded first. __________________ |
Gold Member Username: PlymouthQuebec city, Quebec Canada Post Number: 1730 Registered: Jan-08 | Bill Vickers Good post guy The Captain 8000HD need same thing(rename) for load bin, that force the bin PRG to load on boot. Thanks for the info |
Bronze Member Username: Nanc91Post Number: 44 Registered: Aug-07 | Thanks Bill I tried to load the viewsat ultra with the usb stick in the front but I still have no lights on the front screen...I do not know the proper names of the parts I think this reciver may need but I am going to do my best at describing them...there is a cable that is pluged into the big green board that runs to the front display board(and I think that end of the cable is soider to the board) I believe the problem is with the cable maybe in the middle where there appears to be a black circle or caps of some sort on it so I think this reciver needs a new front display board with the cable on it??????? Can anyone tell me where we might be able to get this stuff?????? |
