I'm considering purchasing this TV. I realize the problems it has had, and this worries me some. My question is, do you think by now Sony has corrected this problem? It seems like all the posts regarding bulb issues are dated Nov-03 to Jan04 time frame, and I was thinking surely Sony would assure that by now these TVS are functional right? Also, do you think that purchasing it directly from Sonys website (given its same price as BB OR CC) might assure that I get the latest, defect free, version?

John, I bought the 50" version 2 months ago and it has been flawless. An amazing TV as far as I am concerned. Great value for the money. I got a great 50" TV for $3K. I use a Yamaha 1400 receiver with it and Bose speakers, just like going to the theater.
Get it from BB or CC where you can pack it up the next day and return it for a new one should something go bad.
You think you like your HT set up now, if you ever upgrade from your Bose, you'll like it even more

I got the 50" version also back in November 03' and it has been flawless. Maybe i'm just lucky? I'm also using a Yamaha 5.1 receiver but have Advents for the main 5 and a Yamaha sub for the (.1) . Got mine at BB for 3K and 0% interest for a year and a half.
