Well, I was at a local Hi-Fi store yesterday. I mentioned my 2yr old 27" Panasonic CRT television to the sales person. I am in the market for a DVD player (but that is another thread altogether). So, he mentioned to me that Component-In is only present on HD tv's. Now, this is probably false, as I bought the TV for ~300 bucks 2yrs ago.
So, is this true? Do ONLY HDtv's have Comp-in? Could my littly Panny be a HDTV?
I hope this doesn't bring you down too much, although a second opinion wouldn't hurt. I'm not sure of your particular model, but the Panasonic CT27SL33 is a CRT 27" SDTV that is not HD capable. I read about a Sony or two that also have component inputs, and they are also standard TVs.
Once again, it sounds as if you experienced a case of the 'lame and tame salesperson'. These guys really need to know that they're misinformed, or just need a good kick in the pants.
