We've had this JVC XV-S300 DVD player for a few years and have never had a problem. We just played a movie on it the other day, as usual, without incident.
Tonight we popped in a DVD and the sound was terrible -- raspy and weird! The receiver it is plugged into is ok, and so are the speakers. We tried playing an audio CD, and it sounded equally terrible. That's when we realized that something was indeed wrong with the DVD player. We tried changing the various audio settings from the menu but nothing helped.
Any insights from experienced people on what is going on here? Did we accidently press some a button that made this happen, or is there some sort of electronic device inside the DVD player that only lasts so long and then --poof-- just "goes?" Do we need to get it repaired, or should we just get a new one?
We had the same problem tonight with our JVC XV-D701BK player. It doesn't matter whether we try to play back through the stereo or plug the headphones directly into the unit. I'm hoping you get some answers.

Just unplug the unit and plug it in again. This should fix the problem
