I've got a 4 year old Samsung HLN437W that has had its guts replaced about 4 times since November (on an extended warranty, thankfully). The retailer has offered to replace the set. I looked at the current sets, but none seem to look good on non-HD channels.
My current set has a "Faroudja" chip in it that smoothes out the jaggies and blockiness in non-HD broadcasts. The picture almost looks as good as an HD channel.
Is there ANY tv that has some similar technology to make non-HD channels look good?
I noticed the stores have all the HD tvs hooked to an HD video source, so you don't see how poor the non-HD quality is until you get the set home.
The tech from the retailer servicing my current set said they have a lot of problems with customers calling in for service when they see the poor quality of non-HD channels, thinking the tv is at fault.
