I have the same problem. I downloaded new file from totalfta on my ultra and lost the quality. My extreme had the quality with THE old file, after downloading new extreme file, it lost the quality too!!
Nalin has the easiest suggestion...LOAD fac bin first!!!! If you have flash drive, keep fac bin and new bin loaded in it. It takes 15 seconds to do this. My VS has not froze doing this. No need to go through long complicated procedures!!! Hope it works for you.

Installed new mainpgm.pgm using serial port, installed new file. NO LUCK. Still no quality. Also installed new sat file from viewsat site and new bin file 071222U - did not help. Just no quality and very low signal: 10 to 20 %only
Farina...Do you have a strong signal? Have you checked all your connections? Have you done Fac Default, Loaded new bin and scanned? Have you tried Channel list and channelmaster? B3V or DN?
and ya if everything is the same with bad results then something changed could be a bad switch i had one go bad during the ice storm here sucks i got a new one with a weathproof case!
