I programmed my viewsat extreme yesterday and pluged it in. The whole house started smelling like smoke. I've had this receiver for 2 years now and never had this problem. I immediately unhooked the receiver. Is there any reason why this may have happened??

Disconnect from Wall and look for the damage under the hood.

did u check what you were cooking at house?
if its not related to that...
then put the reciever outside of your entertainment centre.. usually its so heat in the there that may cause it to burn it.. what about plug wiring? also which website did u use to download new bin? check the system info.. make sure your new bin is from norw group...
use www.totalfta.com for downloads..

Make sure you connected all the wires right..My wife one time connected the out to tv coax instead to the LNB loop out port. It was SMOKING too. Luckly id did not kill the receiver...

I got the file from Totalfta. My wife hooked it up. Maybe she connected the out to tv. I'll check it out tonight. Thanks.

"The whole house started smelling like smoke." Those words are ominous, hence you should look inside before powering it again.

Acutally not the whole house. It was just the room where the receiver was located. Hopefully it hasn't burned out completely. I'll test it again tonight. Thanks for all your inputs. It's been helpful.
